Kesstech exhaust systems legal in CA

".....They produce an unmistakable, unique and completely legal sound thanks to an Electronic Sound Management Systems (ESM2/ESM1) controlling the tone and the volume automatically. If the system is activated, all sound values and all power values strictly comply with the European Union and USA directives....."

Not expecting to see a Harley, sporting that...Around here.

I've yet to hear of a Harley rider that felt they needed to be quieter.

They get away with rattling windows, and have been for so long....
And I don't know of cops that can give tests that can stand up in court, either.

So this could be interesting.

Years ago Pleasanton decided it was sick of Harley riders buzzing its downtown so every weekend it would set up a couple cops with decibel meters and ticketed friggen everybody. Then they got rid of Hot August nights downtown. Then they closed all the bars. Then everybody moved to Walnut Creek :laughing

Interesting ideas. But what does (and can) it sound like?

Love this comment on the article :laughing

"Isn’t it a sad state of affairs though when ” Legal even in California ” needs to be a part of everyones marketing these days ?"

lol - Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Ducati & Triumph have been using similar valve systems on some of their bikes for a few years now.

Noise pollution is a big problem. We're not looking for the worst offenders to buy this necessarily, but if even a few folks get it, it will be fewer people makin' life unpleasant for others. It's a niche market for sure, but so are motorcycles in general.

I think this is brilliant. I know a lot of riders who want the sound.. but only when they want it. When you're putting around town or running a quick errand you don't need to be obnoxiously loud.

Having the ability to change it to "I can't hear" mode when you're out in the middle of nowhere or in a rally is great. When you are taking off in the morning for work, that's great so you don't disturb you neighbors as much either.

Umm a flapper "valve" on a cable linkage, has been around for over half a century....

Open pipes with a cable, divert to the muffler,.... on cars...Has been around that long as well. :afm199

Pretty sure there is no manual control on this thing. If there was I doubt it could be certified. Seems they have designed a system that quiets the bike at the proscribed test rpms but leaves it loud everywhere else. Similar to the weird bumps in fuel mapping to pass emissions tests.

Found some more info, it seems there is a manual control of sorts.

With the system off the bike is quiet all the time. With the system on the bike is only quiet in the ranges that are tested for compliance. They are allowed to have the switch since the bike is legal in both settings.
