Rant: I've just had enough. My Instagram account got locked because I fat-fingered my birthday when verifying my identity. Now they want a photo ID because they think I'm a 9yr old. F*ck that. I've had my Instagram account since about 2012; I've never posted harmful, hateful, derogatory, pornographic, or any other problematic content, words or pictures. I typically only look at moto content and cat videos. They know that.

I used to like facebook; they supported the trades by building only union on all their projects, which meant they supported my livelihood and my fellow tradesmen for years. Maybe I'm being childish, but I won't support them anymore.

That's how poisonous companies embed themselves into society. Like McDonalds, dishing out heart disease by the ton, but now children will literally die without them. You don't want children to die, do you?!? You don't want your friends to lose their jobs, do you?!? Better send in that ID before they go elsewhere. We need them now.
 
I got locked out because I enabled 2 factor but didn't set it up and then logged out. I sent the photo and they re-enabled me.

I also got rejected from a Meta job they reached out to me about but I don't care.
 
I hate them because of their policy of ignoring hate-speech on their platforms, but yet they will ban people, like the OP, over stupid crap.

I only have a Facebook account in my Dog's name.
 
I guess they'll stick around. The example of fast food above, also inadvertently reminds me that we tolerate and let bad corporate shithole operations continue long after we don't like them. In a way, I kind of expected them to fold because of that company (whose name I forgot, was it MySpace?)) got wiped out by Facebook to begin with. Maybe FB will stay on, peopled by those who have common interest groups and such. It's great for my history-nut feeds but I have noticed less and less engagement by my "friends." Lots more ads between the posts, thats for sure.

And yeh, nobody wants to give Zuck the validation of his stupid idea by calling it Meta. I still think his logo looks like some kinda IUD. But it's also stolen off another company that has the infinity symbol, forget which.

The Meta launch day was like this clear proof of Zuck's intellectual and creative bankruptcy. We don't get singular clarity like that often. His dorkiness went off the chart that day, when everything about him just seemed lame and gross to more people. Kinda Bill Gatesy actually, you know, the not-Apple uncool nerd type. He should have just got a Monopoly game banker suit for that day. He can't rock the tee like Jobs that's for sure.

But also, I'll probably be finally getting an Instagram account because apparently just about everyone I know uses DM on there to chat versus text and I guess I'm not ready to be out of the loop yet.
 
I also know people that got banned for seemingly no reason.

I do have a FB account that I haven't posted with in 5 years. I log in to participate in some motorcycle groups and that's it. The amount of random political bs and misinformation I see on there from people I know is sad. The newsfeed is a combo of shitty ads, irrelevant posts, and misinformation. No thanks.
 
I think I am Butchthe Barfdude in FB and IG. Not sure. I stay away because I do not want to contribute to the Zucthing…
 
I deleted my bookFace and Instagram accounts back in Sept 2020.

Someone I went to college with in undergrad posted an extremely partisan take riddled with errors in the monetary analysis.

I responded with a well thought out, non partisan response that focused on some pretty basic monetary theory. You know, the stuff I learned in grad school getting a masters degree focused in finance.

His response? "You need to educate yourself in finance" :laughing

That's when I realized that I should be getting paid for that type of analysis and bookFace wasn't really brining any joy in my life. Mostly just conflict. So I deleted it all, bookFace and Insta.

As for Meta, $500 billion in market cap lost rolling out the Metaverse? I don't think anyone is too surprised that was the immediate result. lol
 
One of my best friends decided to delete his bookFace account on the day they tanked, just for the lulz :laughing

i got locked out of mine at one point because someone reported me over not using my name, again. someone didn't like "incognito" as my last name. got the same insistence on uploading documentation before they'd unlock my account...but they WOULD accept mail.

so i used some bogus name off of junk mail, and uploaded junk mail with my po box as the verification.

got suspended on my other account for something posted in a hidden 'offensive memes' group...7 days. appealed it with the explanation of being kitchen humor, rather than being offensive. they extended the suspension to 30 days as a result :|

Ok, so that is a thing :dunno I have a co-worker that will only communicate with me via IG messaging, it's the weirdest thing to me. Everyone else just texts, granted it's only one single sentence/thought per send, so a complete shit ton of messages for one coherent idea vs just saying what you want to say, then hitting send. Never used to think mid 40's was old, but I guess I'm there.
