Fastest you've gone on a motorcycle (and fastest corner you've taken)

Based on your experience, can an average or above average rider on a sportbike safely negotiate a corner on the street at 160 mph (assume normal bay area roads)?

160 isn't bad in a straight line but it's REALLY fast through a corner. I can't think of any track that has corners taken at 160MPH let alone a corner that is a "bay area road" and not a smooth track. I've seen a lot of roads, I can't think of any corners around here that could be safely negotiated at 160MPH.

What's the fastest you've gone?

About 182 or so..

What were the conditions?

Sunny and totally clear.. awesome.

How fast have you gone around a corner?
150MPH or so.. Willow Springs Raceway T8

Was your sphincter in full pucker? .

No it was all good. My attention was raised though!

While an interesting question, I rarely answer it with any detail. Simply because I find it irrelevant personally, no disrespect intended.

When I had my ZX14R I had that question a lot, and I was honest, not very fast. That was a street bike for me, and I didn't have a chance to take it out to the track. But yeah it may have seen 90-100 when I wicked it up to do a pass.

But to answer your question, it was most likely at TH on my GSXR 1000 and I'd estimate over 150ish. :dunno

Indicated 220kph (about 135mph?) on a VFR800 on a long, straight freeway in Ireland, late for a ferry departure. Probably safer than riding at 30mph in SF, but definitely faster than my comfort zone.

Max speed: 175 indicated
Fastest corner: Steamboat Springs (I forget the corner number as it was YEARS ago). There was one corner (more of a kink) that I would hit at about 140.

No real significant pucker on the corner, but the ol' starfish was a bit tense at 175....

I've gone about 135-140 on my current bike. And damn does that get hard to hold on when you're sitting bolt upright with no fairing.

Much faster on past sprotbiles though.

I dunno...I haven't ever really gone that fast on my own bike: 130 mph maybe on a wide open straight in perfect conditions with no traffic, but I don't have a windscreen and I'm on an 85 hp bike--that's a big difference from being on a sport-touring liter bike. I've done something more like 150+ on the back of a couple of bikes at the track. And when it feel faaaaaaast, I'm not looking down at the speedo. If I feel like I can take a peek in a turn, it's not really a turn in my book. A big sweeper where I'm haulin' butt doesn't really feel as challenging as taking a 10 mph hairpin at 25.

I guess I'm not sure about the point of the thread.

How would anyone Know?
If You have nothing to do, and can look at your speedometer, instead of the road ahead... ... It's snoozefest city, anyway.

RADAR, LIDAR, GPS, onboard data capture devices of various sorts, etc. There are all sorts of ways to find out without looking at the speedo.

Lou.

GPS... and no it is not snoozefest to most people. So maybe you should write "for me" in front of some of your blatherings.

I find my attention really heightens at about 140 MPH and I for one get quite the thrill out of hauling ass.

Fastest Ive ever gone was either on one of Brian's bikes at t-hill. And was still the slowest in C group. :cry :laughing Or maybe it was on this one road in NV where I tried to get my old ninja500 as fast as I could go and IIRC got up to 112 or so before slowing down.

I'm happy being slow. I pull over as needed. :thumbup

My GPS is bonkers. It has once indicated 160mph on highway 9 - not many straights that I recall - see attached log file. I think the whole log was wrong, due to the mountains.

No need to look into the speedo. Even a GoPro pointed at the speedo will tell you how fast you're going later for review. Just don't post it.

Dang, I always just let the cops tell me...:rofl

Only if they can catch you!

Yeah, I get that! :thumbup For me personally, I see straights as just a way to link up to another corner. I live for cornering. :cool

I think that most of us are in agreement with you. That said, going 140+ is still a pretty good rush (unless you are Papi. 140 feels like walking speed to him :laughing )

topped out in 6th, indicated 185 on the way to hawthorne. Corner... Probably 130 or 140 indicated. Not really a corner, more of a long sweeper that's a little sharper at that speed. Also on the way to hawthorne.

Not sure on track... should probably check logger.
