Montague Expressway offramps on 880 and 101

There's several around San Jose that I like, but they're always full of SUVs, minivans, etc rushing to get to the mall :rolleyes

Eastbound Blossom Hill rd to 101 North.

101 Southbound to 85 Northbound.

Northbound Wolfe Rd to 280 Southbound.

Oh and my personal favorite: Northbound Cottle Rd to Eastbound Blossom Hill Rd transfer ramp. 55+Mph goodness, with a wheel loft into 3rd at the crest! :teeth

The Eastbound Blossom Hill rd to 101 North on ramp is GREAT in the wet weather. Simply grab a soda, find a spot to sit, and watch them spin in the wet stuff.... :laughing

Re: familiarity breeds...two-point tickets

Dammit. While I was saving the satellite pic of this, you posted it. (Union to 85NB)

The only things you neglected to mention are the perfect banking and the lovely elevation change. Oh, and your own lane on the freeway coming out of the ramp.

And as you mentioned, that ramp as an exit is well banked too. You can practically be horizontal railing it.

I'm partial to the on-ramp I use the most: Union Ave to NB85.

Southbound 880 carpool exit to 237 west, usually little or no traffic in the morning.

Westbound 238 onto southbound 880, including the two abrupt pavement changes at the joints. What's weird about this one is that practically everyone is in just the left lane (when traffic is moving) leaving the right lane open for passing everything.

I like the off ramp between 4 and 395.

I guess the people that don't get this thread don't commute on thier bike?

My fav is taking Thornton exit off 880 South, its a nice S, wide right followed by a tight left then right again.

I also like 680 to 4 west....it's a classic decreasing radius with a nice surface

not sure if this has been mentioned yet..

92 West bound connection to 101 South bound...nice little mid speed looper :teeth

theres always frickin traffic there.

........ thought I'd contribute......... 'off ramps' have been quite fun for many many years now........ HWY 101 onramp: from Woodside Rd. eastbound to HWY 101 Southbound.........

dude...it's a freeway !

what i mean is...some on ramps are no fun since theres always cars blocking the way...the fun ones i mentioned are always empty when i get on them.

On of my personal faves has to be coming home from Roadrider...
Monterey road to Blossom Hill....Continuing on to Cottle......
Nice right hand sweepers when you hit it with no cars.
Kinda like an amusement park ride.......

damn....since when do YOU take me seriously !! :twofinger !

I like this thread though.....I thought maybe I was a bit coo coo because I enjoy playing on our freeways.....

It turns out I AM coo coo, but I am in good company !

by far my favorite on ramp is the one right by my house. Alcosta/San Ramon Valley BLVD to 680 south.

If you are coming south on san ramon valley, you make a left turn that some can drag knee on, then a right turn. you've 3 lanes to play with when there are no other cars, and there rarely are. When you enter the on ramp, it shoots you down hill and under a bridge...it kinda reminds me of a roller coaster.

If you are coming north on san ramon valley to 680 S, you make a tight right turn, then another downhill right turn, through the "tunnel", and you are on the free way.

you can get to pretty good speeds on this great on ramp. Easily :barf :barf :barf :barf :barf our of 5

I'm in the end of this video. This is the off ramp in Walnut Creek. North Main street(southbound exit).

Taking this on a bike is great because even if you eat shit, you're into the landscaping and not any cars or curbs or anything.

It's my local spot where I try and see how much I can lean. Then I come home and drool over how much more you guys do it.

There's only one cloverleaf worth mentioning in the entire Bay Area.

Northbound 17 onto Northbound 85

A sharp mildly off-camber turn in that flows into a gentle camber downhill sweeper into a sharp banked decreasing radius kink onto a flat uphill straight.

:teeth

my all time favourite too!!
:)

in fact, you can make it even better:

I love going 85 Southbound, taking the exit to 17 Northbound.
Long slight downhill single lane straight way with perfect visibility. At the end slopes up to scrub speed, then slopes into a decreasing radius righthander.
I have different reference points for each car, but on the mustang this is tire spinning time, get the tail to do a full fishtail.
Bike: 2/3 out line (for gravel on inside, and hard accelerate.

then merge with the other guys coming from 17nb offramp.... look out for Moike in his Subaru... ;)

and then continue on offramp, into moikes downhill righthander (see above), back onto 85 northbound.

little joys of commute.... :)

101 s to 85 north, really long right hander, you can open it up all the way on my sv. rarely see cars on there around 5-6pm.

oh, and yes, i do track days, but i still like a cheap thrill on the streets.

haha wow dude i thought i was the only one. i take that interchange to 237 almost everyday coming home from de anza. thats awesome.
Sweet I take this daily, but I have the added spice of immediately taking the Dana St. exit, which consists of a banked uphill right 180, followed immediately by a sharp 90 onto Dana toward MV.

101 north and south. exit 420 - Millbrae ave. widest and smoothest onramp I've ever ridden.
