Latest Update:
They have moved her from ICU. She now has a private room and can accept flowers, cards, e-mail cards. She’s doing a little better today, she remains in considerable pain; which is to be expected; the care at Enloe has been excellent.

Here's the information for those that have requested:

Hospital: Enloe Medical Center (Chico)
Room #: 320
Patient: Shaala Kirkby

Your wishes, prayers, kind words and support both publicly and privately have been truly welcomed and appreciated.

Thank You, all.

Follow-up:
I’ve been playing catch-up with all the private messages and e-mails, again, thank you for the support, thoughts, wishes and prayers; it makes a difference. She could use all the spiritual support available.

Accident Update:
Presently I’m unable to discuss any further details of the accident until we’ve completed an independent investigation; clearly the driver that impacted her wasn’t paying attention, in fact he crossed a two lane highway (double yellow), slamming into the left side of her body. The driver did not run, however he at first attempted to remove her helmet and then attempted to remove her left glove (mind you her hand was broken, multiple fingers broken and two requiring plastic surgery/reconstruction). Needless to say this individual is a poor excuse for a human being. Aside from being cited, I’m hopeful the driver that struck her will be charged with felony reckless endangerment by attempting to remove her helmet and gloves; fortunately a CHP officer was only a few cars back from the scene and physically removed the driver away from further attempts to move her (and/or continue attempting to remove her helmet). This individual not only struck her with physical impact of his vehicle, he further risked her life while she was lying on the ground screaming in agony.

Cards and Flowers:
Cards, flowers and letters are welcomed (and encouraged by me personally); I know only a few members have met her in person; for those that have would say that she is one of the nicest/kindness person met; she’s in so much pain, yet even the simplest letter or card would make her feel so much better; not only is the recovery physical, the spiritual/mental side will take time to overcome.

Thank you all for the continued words, thoughts and prayers, we as motorcyclist are a tight knit community; what happens to one of us, effects us all. I pray for no-one to ever go through this type of situation/experience; ride safe.

You're a good man, and it looks like everyone's keeping you plenty busy.
Stay strong.

Shaala, spunkykitten, I send you my love :)

Mark,
I haven't been paying attention lately and this comes as a great shock. Here is hoping both Shala and YOU pull through this as I know you are definetely strong enough to handle this kind of adversity and I am sure just having you around will help her handle this tragedy.

This has truly been a "bad" week. Here's to Shala making a complete recovery.

Thanks for the call. Jer and I are eager to pay a visit to Shaala. Please let us know when we can see her.

Hang in there, we know it's tough. We are just down the road so call us if you need anything, anything at all!

Michael & Jer

I spoke with Jer on Friday and heard about the accident. Even though I don't know Shaala, she is in our prayers for a speedy recovery! No one should have to go through this situtation because of someone else's stupidity and carelessness.

Hearing about this just makes me slow down and pay even more attention when I am in a cage. Best wishes on getting better, Shaala!!!

Sorry to chime in so late but I am glad that Shaala is post surgically resting and healing.
Hope she's not allergic to flowers!

As both an accident victim and friend of such, I can tell you it will be a hard road to recovery. She will need you and you will need help. Lean on your (and her) friends for help in this. It will make it easier for both of you.

*insert inadequate expression of consolement here* :(

Mark, I am so sorry to hear what happened to Shaala, hang in there and wish her a speedy recovery from me.

Its so much worse when something like this happens to a girl.:(

I know its a nightmare right now, but things will be ok in the end, modern medicine can work wonders.

15 years ago my little sister was run over by a out of control delivery van, the guy ran over her legs above the knees, then panicked and backed over her legs below the knees. Her legs were a mess, bones completely shattered, there was even talk of possibly amputating them. We all wondered if she would ever be able to walk again.... It was a long hard recovery for her, with several operations, but she can do much better than walk now, she can dance and run! No limp. Even the scars healed up well....
and this was 15 years ago tech, I'm sure the doctors techniques have advanced since then.

My sister received a half million for her pain and suffering from the guys insurance, (that was the max he was insured for)

I hope your girl does much better.

Wish you guys the best....

Frank
