First Motorcycle Trip to Crater Lake - Route?

The most important thing to do is to take enough time up there so you can ride ALL the roads.

Feel sorry for folks that go by layed out plans and schedules, commitments and obligations.
When the Awesome scenery, that can set your heart free, is all around you.

Yep. Unfortunately, so many of us allow commitments and obligations to run much of our lives. If at all possible, try to get more time off of work, more than you need, and then don't plan so much that you have to use all of it. Then you'll have the time should you decide to alter your riding plans/route. There is much joy to be had when you aren't so tightly scheduled.

I don't remember even seeing thicker clouds of mosquitoes than at Diamond Lake, just north of Crater Lake. I stopped using DEET. Picaridin works for me.

'Must be a time of the year thing. For years, my wife and I used to go camping at Diamond Lake and were never bothered by mosquitos. But we always went on vacation after Labor Day so that the kids were back in school.

299 has really long delays from the massive realignment of the curves just west of Redding.
Also if it's hot they have dirty water streaming across the pavement that will muck up your bike.
I would take 36 or 199 to cross from the coast to 5. Maybe even 20.

Spent many summers in the area of Klamath Lake & the surrounding mountains. Don't recall a skeeter problem but this was 40 years ago. Had boat, went to many lakes in the area fishing. Also did deer hunting (got limit quick), & varmint out in the Eastern Deserts.

Have always wanted to return to live there someday....(sigh)...

The 97 east of Weed to Keno wil make you drive through some crop land where so much pesticide hangs in the air your nose will close up and your eyes will water so badly you won't be able to see.
Hmm. Been that way many times. Never noticed anything like that.

I think mosquito season is earlier. They're thick enough you don't need sunscreen.

I've never been called "Vintage Cool" before. I dunno if I should blush or is that a banana in your pocket? :)

as in, the locals got a lot of stories/bs you wont get anywhere else. dont be a snotty punk, and enjoy. You are too young to be vintage cool, and whatever is in my pocket, it sure as hell isn't a banana, doggo.

This is more along my mindset. I've got 9 days to travel wherever... Just need to be back on Saturday in time for MotoGP!

All these comments have really made me work on finding a general idea of which way to go! I'm excited!

Sometimes we get too busy making a living we forget to make a life.
Same with rides, too much input clouds the judgement and spoils the views.
