Fiverr - wut?

theres some one who posts here regularly, with links to their website, who appears to be a bona fide illustrator. I can't remember their handle right now.
their portfolio looks good. maybe they could use some work. step up, now, ya'll...

Yes. I'd love that. I posted this before, didn't really see a response. I think a couple folks on here have posted about design stuff, so would love to see it.

yeah, I can't recall it now. definitely a Sinker...so you KNOW they need work.:laughing:laughing

no, really, they had good stuff. Abacinator? I don't know...

I wouldn't assume that. I went to Fiverr and clearly stated in my inquiries to Designers I looked at that this was a bigger gig, but wanted to see if they'd be willing to use Fiverr as a launching platform. Again, I've posted in forums and other places like CL and haven't had very much of a response at all. At least at Fiverr, artists are (starting to) respond. I'm casting a fairly wide net though.

I'd like to just get someone to respond. Fiverr was a last resort, but at least they are somewhat responding and two now (as of today) are doing some comp ideas for the Fiverr rate they are asking. They know if it matches what I want, I will give them more gig's, that was stated up front. You got better referrals, well, lets hear it!

do you know how many times a client has told me that a project will lead to bigger and better things and it just fizzle out? As a marketing manager, this is a fairly standard conversation we have about the industry as a whole. Do you know how many times I've had the same client tell me that if I lowered my rates the 2nd job would be mine... but I've already lowered my rates to get in the door - the next job was supposed to be full price, remember - BIGGER GIG ;) I have enough clients AND a full time job, I don't need to add anymore but every once in a while I will on the premise that it'll be larger and nada. I can't feed my family on possibility.

I highly doubt you would lower your rates on the premise of MAYBE future work so why should I? Because my market is filled with low class idiots willing to give their work away? Guess what, so is yours... Only your market requires some capital to get off the ground. Mine just requires time.

How many of the freelancers on fiverr do you think have full jobs at starbucks or even real agencies trying to make ends meet?

PS: I am not a creative but I am on the same side of the fence as creatives.

I know Kevin is but not sure he is looking for work - as a digital illustrator

Papi - Matt Taylor from old 4theRiders is an awesome digital illustrator - you might want to hit him up

I won't speak for Kevin (as he's already spoken in here) but Matt likely isn't willing to accept fiverr rates but he may be open for discussion on other options. I can put you guys in touch if you would like.

Hey hey now, easy on the anger, man. I've had a posting up about this for a year. I had exactly three responses in that year, none of which had what I was looking for.

I understand your points. I have clients to. I run a small business. I get what your saying.

Again, the reason I finally went to Fiverr was to shotgun a broader response. I have exactly two now, out of 20-30 queried, that are doing comps for the asking price they wanted. So we will see.

Again, I have a smallish budget that is above Fiverr rates. And again, I've had no response to posting here previously or on other mediums that yielded any results. So, I'm giving fiverr a chance. If you guys want to PM me with leads, I'll reach out.

damn - that sucks, I really don't understand why you've had little success.

fwiw, not really angry just matter of fact and I knew you had your own small business so I am slightly befuddled by this ;)

good luck - not sure I saw your ask but I do know several creatives that may be looking for a range of work. PM me your requirements and I can make some calls.

yeah, I think it was Kevin, right, said he painted things..by his profile, I guess he doesn't have a bike, so there goes bartering skills.
ok, well, gl. I'm sure you're not looking to rip anybody off..:ride

It sounds like the hate for Fiverr is pretty well established (and with good reason, the race to the bottom of freelance design helps no one) but it there's one thing I haven't heard discussed, its that Fiverr can easily land you in legal trouble. I've heard of numerous designs coming out of there using licensed and trademarked design elements.

If you are looking for a design that you want to build a brand and go public with, make sure you have a trademark lawyer go over it first.

:shhh you get what you pay for :laughing

I was looking at the pricing for fiverr and it's appalling to say the least. I am so glad I am not a creative having to compete with that.

It doesn't really compete with my field, but I have concerns about similar analogs. That said, I'm not too worried - every freelancer has made a lowball pitch or three when starting out, and has fucked up a couple of jobs in doing so.

Its not until you need to make an actual living wage off of your own work, coupled with the knowledge that your reputation hinges on every job that you do, mean that you're taking your work that much more seriously, and you'll absolutely nail the job. If you're paid in bird seed, you're bound to take the piss.

The garden weeds itself.

We have IP counsel for that.
Our revised CL Gig listing did get a positive response though, as well as a few here. :)

Hoping to get a nice pool we can select from, we'll see how it looks by next week. Any one here interested, look at the more detailed CL listing please.
But I agree with Tyler, so far the Fiverr stuff we are seeing is pretty immature and lacks experience.

the one thing I saw was the cue that each had - Some of the more popular had up to 200 designs in front of yours. Curious how much of that is false sales to encourage you to upgrade to expedited services.

play the game, don't game the player

No idea, but we'll see what the last few deliver. One we got yesterday looked like my dog did it with muddy paws. Upside; I think my logo now translates to Oriya. :party
