fix it ticket no rear reflector, Leo said cant use the round reflectors, what to use?

I guess I've been pressing my luck, but I haven't ran into the adhesive reflector tape...

Most cops are cool but some can be very strict in terms of defination.
I worked by the CHP office in San Jose and "met" :rofl a cop that chases the big semis around in a CHP truck. We "comunicated":wow a few times and he stated he used to train some of the bike cops.

Ah yes, Officer Rodriguez. He's rather proud (full of) of himself. He has a hard on for motorcyclists. He has a 'cheat sheet' that he gives out to other LEO's that lists some pretty shitty reasons to cite us. He'll actually try to tell you that Lane Sharing above 35mph is illegal. When asked which CVC that says that, he starts writing up other 'violations'.

I used this stuff: LINK, found it at Walmart though. Cut the red part to what you need and you still have a bunch of white reflective stuff to put wherever you want.

A ticket can be given for any reason or no reason at all but that does not mean that it is legal or justified. One of the problems is that even the police fail to understand the fucked up twisty little maze of bullshit that the vehicle code had become. Yes, it is legal to modify a vehicle and no the vehicle need not remain as it was when it left the factory.

Leaving work about the same time as he started work, we got to know each other and he would pull me over on the 3 various bikes I rode. He told me a ticket could be given for anything that was not the OEM in the OEM location including the exhaust. He was cool in reality as he was just checking for bike liscense and insurance papers really & 1 ticket for some real small blinkers (I agreed to small and too close). There was a recent article stating that cops were pulling over bikes doing the same speed as cars cuz a study showed bike deaths were on the rise. I also meet a cop on a personal basis and he said "giving tix to bikes are easy no matter sportbike or cruiser cuz u guys almost always change things from stock". Anyways from my experience that tail in the OP picture section looks wide open to ticket.
P.S. I bought the reflective rim tape and used the remainder under the liscense plate on the "plate frame. NOT approved but it is there and bright at night so i'm hoping that helps.

Ha ha. Good for him!

I don't want to LEO bash, but my friend also encountered this particular officer one day. He pulled him over for non-approved turn signals, yet my friend had already had his current turn signals signed off by another CHP officer. The kicker: we were well over 100 miles north of San Jose (which, to my understanding, is where he's based). To his credit, he only gave my friend a warning.

Just wondering. I had those dime sized reflectors and didn't care to take the chance so I bought a reflector on ebay for about $7 its DOT stamped and the whole 9. Just wondering if its legal the way I have It mounted on there and all. I don't have anywhere else to put it with the tailight kit thats on there.

Get a license plate frame and mount it to the frame. The way it is now, someone w/ a hardon for riders *MAY* say the plate is obstructed.

Didn't really think about that. :thumbup Too bad the only one I have is rounded off. Gotta find a nice flat black one I guess.:)

or look at my earlier link and spend a buck at the hw store.

Cops need to get on the same page. I got the same fix-it ticket from the CHP who specifically told me the little round one's would work fine and said ANY rear facing reflector will do.

Like any state/federal employee... They will all have different answers. The worst is the DMV. Over the phone they're horrible.. Meet one in the facility they somehow know they're shit. I don't get it...

I mean, I know the reflector itself is legal. Its actually for a Ducati lol. It was DOT approved so I bought it. I was just questioning the location.. Your best bet is to dump the dime sized reflectors if you don't wanna chance a bs ticket.

Figured I'd try and nip it in the bud rather than wait to get pulled over for it. CHP followed me on the backroads off of 35 last week and I had the dime reflectors, never lit me up. Its 50/50 I guess.

That does not make it right.

Well, they are usually on the same page if you keep your bike stock.

Do you really need a fender eliminator/ new aftermarket tail for your bike?:dunno
