OK, so I just spoke to one of the guys at work. I never thought that I would see this kind of thing happen in my line of work.

My co-worker had to suck it up and work over the weekend because one of our customers had a problem with an employee. I can't give out the name of the company because of confidentiality reasons, but long story short, the company had a maintenance employee who forgot to take his normal dose of Prozak before he came in to work one day. The guy worked the second shift.

He came in at 2pm and decided that he needed to work on one of our machines. Over his 8-hour shift, he managed to take our machine completely apart and strip it down to the frame.

This completely shut down the company's production for a few days, and my co-worker had to go over there and put everything back together again.

Anything like this ever happen at your company?

He was a maintenance guy on the second shift. Everyone just thought something was wrong with the machine and left him alone. It actually took longer for people to notice. He ended up going home after his shift, and nobody noticed it until the morning shift came back in.

Nope, he worked for one of our clients who used one of our machines in their production line. We busted ass to help them get our machine back up and running for them. Of course, we charged the shit out of them, but in the end, it cost them a lot more if we didn't come in and fix it. My co-worker did the needful and worked over the weekend.

Yes, homeboy got kicked to the curb pretty darn quick.

Please tell me you don't work for an airline:wow

Nope. I work for a company that makes semiconductor manufacturing equipment. These are very complicated million-dollar pieces of equipment that this guy exxentially turned into a room full of paperweights.

The good thing is that the customer is happy because we bent over backward to help them get going again.

I wish I could post the pics. I was shocked when I saw them.

I actually feel sorry for the guy. I would blame management for not "managing" better. If someone noticed he wasn't quite right when he started work then they should have sent him home. Now if dude was high from some legal or illegal drugs, thats another story...

This is a Sad Story, it is also a peek into how tenuous some peoples grip on sanity is. Now that this guy has no job, he may lose his medical benefits and be unable to afford his meds-- what will he 'dismantle' then?

What if some other person (and there are MANY others) forget to take their meds and they decide to walk into the local Safeway and start shooting?

There are many people who are living on the edge.

Prozac works on a tissue saturation/assimilation basis. Missing one day won't do anything. Missing a week might, but probably not. A month maybe.

An SSRI increases the time that serotonin is available to the synapses.

It is very unlikely that the drug, or missing one day of it, has anything to do with the behavior discussed in the original post.

Prozak is just the 'official' story, but it is very likely that there were some other substances involved. :teeth

Crystal meth! Sounds exactly like a tweaker who did not have a garage full of parts to organize and got the good idea to take apart a machine to "fix" it.
