Freaking Apple store

Went to the Apple Store last night. I have a Late 2008 Macbook (Aluminum) with the removable battery. It's had a swollen battery for two years now. Took the battery to the Apple store and asked them about it. It's obviously way out of warranty.

The genius guy gave me some line about how that's a "feature" of this particular battery where it swells up to let people know it's time to replace it. Never heard of it before. Pretty much called BS on the whole thing. Told them I believe this is a defect and safety issue, not a "feature". But what do I know? I've never had a swollen battery before. I was tired and starting to get pissed at the guy for, what seemed to me, feeding me bullshit. I left in a huff and went to get something to eat.

Came back 20 mins later to apologies to the guy. I told him I was out of line and you are just doing what you're trained to do. He thanked me for being a "standup guy" for coming back and apologizing. I asked him how much a new one was and if they had any in stock. I already knew they were $129, but hoping for a possible discount. Hehehe...but I really had no intention of buying one knowing I can get one for $99 from Macsales.com. I was fully prepared to do so mind you.

After a minute, he came back with a new battery and proceeded to open it to "make sure" he had the right one. I told him I wasn't going to buy one right now. He took my old swollen one and just gave me a new one and said "Look, it was very nice of you to come back to apologies. Working here for four years, no one has ever done that. Take this new one and have a good day."

Needless to say, I was blown away by the gesture. Now I have a new battery. :teeth

CN: Swollen battery, became irate at BS being thrown at me, left pissed, came back, apologised to the guy, genius guy thanked me for doing so, gave me a free one.

how old are you? You haven't seen a swollen battery?!?!
You haven't charged phones and batteries in the last 14-18 years have you.... :p

Yeah, they better stop giving away shit for free. Is that what's called service? is that why everything's overpriced? :D

is it the same with say... a $449 JUICE mixer? :|

It's called goodwill. Apple has done it before for me as well without me even asking for it. It's worked in their favor since I've continued to purchase Apple products.

Good for you going back and being a stand up guy. I would bet that happens less than Apple giving a battery away.

36 years old. I've charged up all kinds of batteries. But this is the first time I've encountered a Li-ion swell up. So...there. :p

All that apple kid did was reinforce your asshole attitude towards people and technology you don't understand.

+1 for the new battery

Awesome of the guy, although there is something creepy about iStore. Fake cheery sales staff, generally clueless customers, and stereos blasting that "obscure underground song that's constantly playing everywhere."
