Freeway speeds lately?

Saturday was the same shit... you guys know how 280 gains and then loses a lane right before the Edgewood exit?

People were passing me at +10mph on the right, I was in right most lane that doesn't merge, the slow lane going 65 (slow truck)...

Why... I just don't get it lol just let the slow lane be 65, and don't pass on the right.

Life is short. I got places to be.

I had a bike cop come around me at about 90mph this morning in the carpool lane. I saw him coming and didn't even have time to move over. He was already making his move so I stayed where I was.

Heh.

Not sure if you are joking... just do you in the left most lanes...

I usually don't have anywhere to be important, and my truck is slow... so I just cruise.

Zoomers and busy folk love to tailgate me :twofinger

You all know how the US Interstate numbering system works doncha?Odd numbers north and south, even numbers east and west.
3 number designations. If the first number is odd, it starts on the interstate but doesn't reconnect. Even number first, it starts and ends on an interstate.

good info, thx

I805 & I405 in So Cal both start and end at I5. Same for I205 in Portland, and I think I405 in Seattle as well.

That should be taught in high school.

Unpopular opinion:

-If people are passing you, you are going too slow. Move over.

-Right lanes are for slow people, you can't get mad at slow drivers using the slow lanes like they should.

-Left lanes are for fast people. Move fast or get over.

-Traffic, like fluids or electricity, will seek the most efficient way to get from point A to point B. It will move at the speed that makes the most sense given conditions.

-And finally, speed limits should be taken as minimum speed on the freeway. If the speed limit is 65, you should be going 65-70 unless conditions are unfavorable.

Some people drive like they don't have anywhere to be, and that's why god created right lanes.

Why? Your parents should teach you some things.

Parents should teach a lot of things, but we can't trust them to, hence standardized curriculum that teaches things that 'everyone should know'.

Sadly, many of the basics are going away, for some ridiculous reason. Kids REALLY should know some things once they graduate:

- How credit works (and why it's dangerous) as well as basic money management (why it's important to save, budgeting, etc)
- How to cook (or eat healthy)
- Why you should never talk to the police without representation
- More time/importance on the constitution and how local/state/federal governments work
- How to drive and the etiquette of the road (you should get a license just because you can fog a mirror). This should cover bicycles as well!
- How to handle/interact people you don't like or agree with
- And much more

Why these kinds of things? Because our society depends on all of them in order to function. Parents are often busy, neglectful/forgetful, or just shouldn't be parents at all (it doesn't exactly take a certification to pump out kids). Kids should have the opportunity to get exposure to these things no matter how good/bad their home education is. Otherwise, that's how you get people camping in the left lane of a 5 lane highway, doing 65, while traffic is going as fast or faster... and thinking everyone ELSE is in the wrong. Obeying the law is all well and good but functionally meshing with society is just as important.

Driving is a mere privilege so school should not be involved. I think they've stepped out of the driver's ed game and pushed that to the private sector.

My HERO !!

Conditions in my truck are unfavorable at above 65mph...most notably, the noise coming from the engine :twofinger

Interesting you say driving is a privilege but nothing about eating well. My intent is that things that affect society and people's general well-being.

Cooking/eating is important for the self AND to society . Better health means lean strain on our hospitals and medical field from easily (relatively) avoidable maladies like type 2 diabetes which is usually well-managed with diet and exercise

Driver's training is important because, weather you're a driver or not, every one of us is affected by automobiles. Having a strong curriculum will help make sure people understand basic ideas like :

Left turn lanes (that no one seems to understand are for starting AND ending left turns).

Turn signals that small cities might not have or teach

Roundabouts

Now, yes, private driver's ed should teach these things but often they don't. And, more importantly, since bicycles are bound by many/most of the same traffic laws as cars, everyone should understand the rules of the road, regardless of whether you want to drive or not. Pedestrians are frequently hit by cars because they don't know rights of way doesn't stop 5k lbs of automobile that doesn't expect you to cross 50ft past the crosswalk

I'm sure there are exceptions, probably due to expansion of the interstate/spurs and a desire not to re-designate.

I had it back asswards.
I corrected my post.
