Seriously, they've been bleeding our economy dry for a long time. The Japanese practice various forms of protectionism. I'm glad they are taking it in the shorts right now. It's good for America.

And, I'm very proud of our Transportation Secretary saying, "Don't drive your Toyota til it's fixed!!!!"

Fuck toyota.

most toyota's that we drive are built right here in America, with Union made parts and labor

If by "protectionism" you mean building cars people want to buy instead of blowing millions on lobbyists and begging for bailouts when the shit hits the fan due to decades of mismanagement, then, yeah, sure.

I don't think that's what he means.

I will give Toyota credit for forcing the big three to get off their ass and build a better cars, but it is nice to see them taken down a peg or two.

meet me at Jack London square any day of the week and we can watch the Toyotas be off-loaded. I'll buy us a 6pk.

And yes, you've bought into Toyota's PR plan.

Yes, that is true, but where do the profits go?

They employ how many people in the US (not that many), and how many billions of our dollars go to Japan. I don't know the exact numbers, but I am thinking the vast majority of the money goes to Japan.

that is very true. How many plants does Toyota have in the US? I don't know but I bet it less then 10, there are more then 10 Ford plants in Michigan alone.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner!

When I was in b-school, those profits were called "economic profit". Net net, it doesn't matter how much Toyota produces in the US, it makes a difference in where the EP goes.

This is why I was so against "Clash for Clunkers". My fucking tax dollars were going to the Japanese.

DAMN YOUR GS! ALL THE PROFITS ARE GOING TO GERMANY! AND YOUR DUC! ZOMG ITALIA!

Geez louise people...

And all those products we sell overseas, where do you think those profits go?

Where is Nike Headquarters? Oh yeah, US.

IBM?

Microsoft?

Oh yeah.

So, yeah, FUCK JAPAN and all of their products. We don't need them, don't need to buy them, and we will keep our money to ourselves.

Oh wait, we don't have the money, or customer base to support all of the US companies? FUCK THEM TOO

All those people that would then lose their jobs? FUCK THEM TOO

I'm not convinced their "fix" will address the true problem.

I'm wild ass guessing it is not a mechanical problem but an electronic or software problem...but for all you driving these things, I hope I'm wrong.

Another damned good reason to buy a manual tranny car; no potential in a panic to lose precious seconds before you try and shift the thing into neutral.
