Facebook's 'smart' glasses put cameras on your face. Everyone around you should be aware
Facebook is betting that the future of socializing online will involve high-tech face computers foretold by science fiction sages. But when it comes to "smart glasses," the company isn't quite there yet.

The social media company on Thursday unveiled a $300 pair of specs built in partnership with eyewear company EssilorLuxottica that lets wearers take photos and videos from their perspective. There are no fancy displays or built-in 5G connectivity - just a pair of cameras, a microphone, and some speakers, all wedged into a set of Wayfarer-inspired specs.
Not this shit again! :thumbdown

The article even points out that facebook is not even close to cutting edge here. They are relatively limited glasses in terms of what they can do and a lot of other companies have done similar. That being said, Facebook is one of the companies I would trust the least to not have some always on spying function or similar.

They could range from pretty cool to a pretty big invasion of privacy. If the glasses look normal enough, people could do things like filming intimate moments with a partner and have them be none the wiser. Revenge porn is already a big enough issue now.

Ray Ban done fucked up. FB is trying to be slick by making their version just look like regular sunglasses. All that is going to to is make anyone suspicious of anyone wearing Ray Bans. So, if you want privacy, you will need to ban the use of ALL Ray Ban sunglasses just to be safe.

I mean, this technology is inevitable. Today's children have very little interest in privacy and it holds no value for them.

There is privacy, then there is privacy.

Nobody expects to have their sex video taped without their knowledge.

If you wear sunglasses during sex, you know more about cocaine in the 1980's than I gave you credit for. :laughing

Available in 3 different styles, and with clear glass.

I wear glasses all the time. I'd say I'm probably somewhere around 50/50 on wearing them during sex. The only thing that would stop me from using something like this all the time as normal glasses is the relatively poor battery life.

Because the little cameras aren't totally obvious? :laughing

There is a huge difference between putting yourself at risk on-line and putting others at risk by surreptitiously filming them.

I disagree, the current crop of teenagers seem to be a lot more savvy than the previous two crops.

IMHO, its likely to be the 30-50 year old Karen's and Chad's who get into the biggest trouble :laughing

That is an incredibly broad brush stroke.

Yes, would you like to do a survey of tiktok and misc other social media participation among the youth of today to develop a reasonable assumption that such interest would drive a market for new products or do you think we can make a safe assumption there?

How about glasses set innocently on the bureau and just happen to face towards the bed.

I mean, creeps already have an epic storm of products they can use to do shit like this. What is one more?

:dunno

Just one app, sir. Only one.

It’s not just RayBan… Luxottica owns every major brand of sunglasses sold in the world.

Meh. If someone wants to do shitty spying things plenty of crap out there.
Google glasses histria was funny. People were freaking out about those glasses in a bar while recording whole thing on their phones. :facepalm
