Gas Prices

Long trip to Texas to see grandkids next month. May hit 4,000 miles depending on what we decide to see going and returning. Only good thing is gas will drop after we leave CA. May do a back road route and stay near 55-60. Will see what the Ford Transit will get for MPG.

Geez….
I guess it could be worse….
Just regular gas for this amount.

5.759 per gallon at Costco in Richmond today
We experienced really high prices in 2011 and after covid but this will persist for a year at least. That's a departure for consumers and an even bigger challenge for producers. People are just beginning to feel high labor costs through food purchases thanks to post-covid raises. When immigration policies hit, look out. Kamala Harris put "austerity" in her plank in 2024, along with housing deregulation. Trump promised to bring all prices down, he just left out the timing, after demand crashes due to stagflation and the upper half of the K gets dibs on distressed assets. The next round of leadership will inherit another huge mess of an economy...

Back around 1980 — give or take a couple years — I graduated high school right in the middle of the oil embargo mess. Gas lines around the block, odd/even license plate days, everyone panicking about fuel like the world was ending.

And while half the country was trading in their V8s for tin‑can economy cars that rattled if you sneezed near them… I went the other direction.

I scooped up every gas‑guzzling muscle car I could get my hands on. Sixties and seventies iron. Big blocks. Quadrajets. Cars that drank fuel like a sailor on shore leave. And because everyone else was scared of the pump, I got them dirt cheap.

Honestly, it was one of the best automotive eras of my life. While people were buying beige econoboxes with 0–60 times measured with a calendar, I was out there living the dream.

With gas prices doing their thing again, I’m starting to wonder if history might repeat itself. If folks start dumping their thirsty toys out of fear, well… I’m ready.

WANTED: Your Unwanted Gas Guzzler — I’ll Take It Off Your Hands

If you’ve got a V8, a big block, a carbureted monster, or any old-school “gas guzzler” you’re thinking of unloading because of fuel prices, I’m your guy.

Muscle cars, land yachts, oddballs, projects, runners — if it drinks premium and makes the neighbors frown, I’m interested.

Cash buyer. Not scared of bad mileage, rough edges, or questionable life choices.

Send pics, price, and details.

I have a running 57 chevy with a transplant 350 that can be yours for the low, low price of $75,000!!

When I tell my son that he'll eventually get my 67 oldsmobile, he says "just sell it now and give me the money"... no sentimental value. :laughing

You make a really good point, Paul. There's several potential collectibles that may be worth snapping up.

The problem with collectibles is that if you're the only person who wants them, it can still be a fun hobby, but a terrible investment.
There is an entire subculture dedicated to Millennials inheriting collections instead of cash. It's a RIOT. TLDR, 99.9999% of the time a persons "collection" is junk to younger generations.

And the probate attorney's end up fire sale'ing the assets at the wrong venues (to maximize value)...

Just paid $6.189/g including the 11c member discount for 91 octane at 7-11 in Placerville. Prices still trickling up....not down. Turns out trickling down is really just an lololol for r-words.

I worked at A Terrible Herbst then.. customers told me [iwill not buy gas if it hits 1.00 a gallon! ].
I bought A Lot of challengers. Chargers . Coronets. Marauders. For under 900 bucks!.

we are going to $10/gal, I'm 100% sure of this. California is an isolated petroleum market from the rest of the US, our refineries use gulf imports.

Maybe if we pray enough to King Trump he will find a way to load up some of the tankers we seized around VZ and send some crude our way.
