Anyone know of a good place to rent gear (helmet, jacket, gloves, boots, pants)? I have a family member coming out of the country and he wants to try out the legendary California roads on a motorcycle. He doesn't want to haul his gear along with him as he has to make multiple stops before he gets here and he's traveling with his family.

Finding a rental bike seems to be less of an issue than gear.

Appreciate the help!

Many motorbike rental places also rent gear, anticipating exactly your relative's situation. An alternative is to buy gear from the consignment rack at the Moto Guild, and then put it back for sale after he leaves. You may get exactly the same money, or perhaps a bit less equivalent to a renting. Good luck!

Appreciate the feedback! The few moto rental places I was considering were renting out gear too, but depending on location, not the full complete set.

Appreciate the tip in regards to the consignment gear.

How about post his sizes and ask to borrow, I for one have a lot of spare gear that If it fit him I would be glad to lend.

Same here. I have a spare jacket, gloves, boots, and helmet if they fit.

Have him send his gear before he leaves VIA FedEx or UPS nothing beats your own gear.

Appreciate all the offer to borrow your gear! You guys are awesome! I may ping some of you closer to the date, which is towards the end of the month.

Shipping his own gear does sound pretty ideal. However, he's coming from London, UK. I imagine the package will be more than 10-11 lbs for the full gear and not a small box at that. So I can't imagine the cost being <$50, even with DHL. However, will definitely quote out this approach to see if it makes sense.

Why not just pack his gear in his luggage...

My wife and I did that when we went to Italy to ride for 10 days.

I'm with motomania: pack an extra suitcase. Any baggage charge will be cheaper than shipping or renting. Plus he'll save money and be more comfortable wearing his own "clean" stuff than paying to rent someone else's sweaty and ill-fitting gear.

I agree with RVFRick and Mania ...

I've done a fair amount of riding overseas, and always bring my own gear. You can ship it ahead of you, or pack an extra bag. Most airlines charge about 50 bucks for a bag that'll stow your whole kit.

It's nice being able to strap on your own business, too, when everything else is foreign. It gives you a sense of being at home in your own skin, even if the traffic is all traveling on the "Wrong Side" of the road.

Size? Folks here have lots of gear. Are you guys responsible?
I think a helmet is rather personal though.
