Geezer camping upgrade: Propane lanterns

I sold my Coleman gas camping stove & mantle light when I went full time Airstreaming.
I did keep my backpacking stuff for bike trips.

My main point, I got away from the gas lanterns as being too bright. Stumbling on rocks and stumps when leaving the light envelope. I went with kerosine lanterns, enough light to see without the night blindness stepping away from camp.
Otherwise it is a battery headlamp.

The ones I have can be turned down though, in fairness....but yes, on full-blast it's like an oil refinery at night (I grew up in Martinez).

I use a combination of the rechargeable multi-LED lamp for general light and a very bright hand-held T6 'tactical' flashlight using an EBL 18650 battery for when I have to have a lot of directed light for something.

they do produce the most light but ask yourself: do you really need all that light? you're in the outdoors. there are stars to be seen. campfires to be enjoyed.

I still have my propane lantern but haven't taken it camping in over 2 years now. Most of it is that I have to save every cubic inch with packing for 4. The other is that I haven't missed it since I haven't brought it.

the Luci does fine and I love them, but not nearly as bright as a propane. I have 2 Lucis around the camp spot and that seems to be enough. Even if I had 20 Lucis it still wouldn't take up the space as my propane lantern.

The scouts use the foldable LED lanterns that have usb ports. they work great, but they don't have the power to charge iphones and such. they can charge the external chargers that can then charge an iphone though. still, very compact and very bright, and can be used with rechargeable batteries effectively.
