Golden State Warriors 2015-2016

Ah, I was wondering when this would come up so I could say:

The Warriors at Oracle - bringing white people back to Oakland one game at a time...:laughing

Watching people leave was painful. I can't afford the games either, so I pull up my recliner close to teevee, put on the Strength in Numbers T-Shirt and find it unbelievable people would pay so much and head for 880. It's what you always hear about LA fans, really....

I admit, the game felt over for much of the 4th quarter and there is a kind of painful feeling of seeing garbage time extended for so long and watching the woefuls Cavs on the bench and such....but if ya love the team the way you say you do...well, no excuse. I said to Ms. BA, who was sitting nearby, "those are obviously not the "authentic" fans....."

Didn't make any sense to me, and considering it could be in all likelihood the last game of the year at home, I wouldn't have.
 
Does it really bother you guys regarding the fans leaving early? Especially in a blowout?

I've never understood the 'real' fan argument. Players don't care. Teams dont care. Fans don't get awards for staying. I've been an A's my entire life and leave early if it's a blow out either way, up by a lot or down by a lot. It sucks ass to get stuck on that BART walk over waiting and waiting for a train to come.

I also prefer to watch the games at home anyway, certainly for basketball and football. The tv and home experience is much better I think. Granted, I make the decision knowing a football and NBA game would cost $200+ for the day to go whereas going to an A's game might cost $30. I guess I just feel that a fan can be a fan and doesnt have to go to the game and/or stay the entire game.

Granted, leaving early during a close game like those idiot Heat fans that left, got locked out and didnt see Ray Allen tie the game vs the Spurs. That's unacceptable.
 
I guess its because I am not there. The few professional sporting events I have ever attended have been so exciting. It's like the one good party you finally get invited to, over all the sucky ones.

Sitting on the freeway, or just regular life around here pales by comparison to bein in the arena with people who are nuts over the dubs. We all get plenty of freeway and BART time. Does it really matter to "beat" traffic?


All season I have been watching the games and thinking that we have the best frickin fans at Roaracle and that we better all enjoy it, because I guarantee the Chase Center will NEVER be as good. I mean, its in the subtext of all of this success that many people are fatally offended at the move over to SF. I work with a gal who, with her boyfriend, went to tons of Warriors games over the years but ever since the announcement of moving over to SF, have just stopped watching and going despite this incredible two seasons. The guy grew up in Oakland, that's part of it, but it just feels like a big-money sell-out. The point is, the games at Oracle, especially playoff games, are numbered days. This magical season which just seems like all the cards fell into place, man, it will be over and done very soon.

I guess it boils down to how A-R a person is also.. Staying for the final buzzer just somehow seems important to me but its kind of automatic response....but I sure see your points, dubs.
 
I was kinda surprised so many fans were leaving, but the game was insanely boring at that point. Would be more pissed if they left early during a loss than a blowout win.

Gentrified? Except for right at courtside, the crowd at Oracle couldn't be any less white unless it was an Earthquakes soccer game.
 
Well look at the toronto fans. In their final game of the postseason when they were for sure being sent away for good the fans all stayed. They even were chanting "lets go raptors!" after they just got eliminated from the playoffs.If it's a regular season blowout, maybe. NBA finals? Hell no. I'm staying to celebrate. You just payed anywhere from $800 minimum to tens of thousands of dollars.. just to leave? It's not like there's any traffic on a sunday night, anyways.
 
I leave early (usually 2 mimutes before the end of game) to get out of the cluster fuck in the lot faster.
 
My spiteful side hopes Curry leaves and the team largely dismembers right before the move to SF. I don't know much about the new stadium plan and how long it's been in the works, but it just feels like one more grab from the ever changing, elitist, vanilla, new San Francisco. Feels like (even though probably not true), "Whoa, Warriors are good, they should play here". I know there were murmurs of a name change as well to the San Francisco Warriors. Not sure if that was just a rumor or someone sending up a balloon.

It would just feel a lot different if they moved. I couldn't justify a mid season game against a bad team this year. I'd never get to a game at the new stadium. Right now, Curry and crew frequently stop at In n Out in Alameda after big wins, or they go to a Mexican restaurant down the street from me in Alameda. There's this nice modesty to being the best team and playing in a modest place like east Oakland and going to get a burger to celebrate a win. IDK, nothing lasts forever.

Yeah I'm not excited for SF either. Traffic is already a clusterfuck getting into oracle. I can't even fathom how bad it will be getting into and out of the city on a weekday during rushhour.
 
The flip about leaving during a blowout playoff game is that it is Sunday night.

I left when Giants were getting blown out by the Reds. I got razzed a little by the bleacher creatures but when I pointed out the 10-1 score, even they relented.
 
Well, I'm glad you guys are talking a lot about price, gentrification and what not, esp if some of you are in front of the TV but "oh why are the fans leaving?" perhaps you should maybe try the BART or the overpass sometime ;)

But this brings me to what I was gonna ask : .. so.. we know that the courtside seat costs like .. $15,000 and you get to be a guy who cheers/yells at Curry and slaps him on the hand, but does anyone really pay that out of pocket??? Or it's really pre-bought giveaways for somebody...corporate expense or what not.

Yeah, I think they were the SF warriors for like 10 years in the 60s, right? Then changed their name to GSW when they moved to Oakland. I don't actually care that much, it just feels icky to change it back with the current SF climate. If they became the Oakland Warriors instead of the GSW I could see the SF Warriors being a logical change with a stadium change. But they've been GSW for 40 years. Probably won't happen anyway. Too much backlash.

I just remember those Finals, there was a scheduling conflict so the Cow Palace was used because that was where they played when they first came out west. Can't imagine that happening these days.

I just looked it up on Wiki and re-informed what I once knew (SF Warriors after 62, but played games in SF, Oakland and San Jose, wouldn't that be cool now?). I saw them play in the Oakland Auditorium twice when I was a kid in the early 60s and saw both Wilt the Stilt and Nate Thurmond. BUt I do remember a cable car on their jersey, I THINK.. I'll never forget one of the games. My older brother took me and one of the players lost his hard contact on the floor; this is when contacts were just out and a big deal. Seeing giant men on their knees looking for a glass contact was hilarious. In those days, they all helped out. So much humbler then.

I'm getting worried about the Kevin Love situation....if he can't go for Game 3, Cleveland will put someone in who can actually play defense. That means LeBron might try to score more often, and Kyrie Irving will be the only horrible defender on the floor.

This could mess up the flow of the game.

Mozgov or Channing Frye.

Mozgov plays than Warriors get more 3s because he can't close out. They'd also insert Ezeli who torched Mozgov last year.

Channing Frye plays and that opens the lane and eliminates a scorer as Klay, Barnes, and Draymond have shut Frye down.
