GoPro Hero 3 Black is dead, hard-brick. What to do?

I did. Their final answer was "You're 5 months out of warranty"

I replied say: Fine. I'll pay for repairs out of warranty. Can you do that? After all, just upload a new firmware+bootstrap or whatever. Camera is intact.

No answer so far.

Who's our go to GoPro guy on here.... :dunno

paging Yakoo752 to the white courtesy phone...

I don't think he cares for that product anymore...

Contour is back in the biz. Less wallet more video. ROAM works great.

I would personally go with the Sony. They use their own sensor/lens and the battery lasts MUCH longer (if the GPS is off) then Contour/GoPro. Also IMO Contour is NOT the same as it used to be, the jury is still out though.

no I care - I just can't do anything for you :laughing

they won't repair it - there is no way to. If it's bricked

If I was buying, I would be looking at ION personally... the Sony doesn't use their own lens

there are a couple Italian/Spanish versions out there that our top notch, but you will have to "import" it

seen that

I worked at large school district before I retired; they purchased a half dozen Go-Pros and all of them took a crap sooner or later.
Tech help was virtually non-existent, too, and warranties were "technically" enforced. "You broke it" pretty much summed up the attitude over there.

I dissected a couple of them, but short of replacing the logic board, there was no way to make 'em work with normal methods, flashing etc.

On the other hand, Contour cameras seemed to be reliable, not quite as cute, but a lot less fragile.

knowing what I know... GoPro has the lowest failure rate out of all the cameras in this category (you can find XXXX stories about how a gopro is bricked vs XX stories about contour... GoPro also sold Xfold inventory)

I'm looking into the Sony. I'm liking Sony HDR-AS100VR, but the initial investment will be huge, given all the mounts I already have. I wonder for how much I can sell my current goPro gear.

However, after a quick Google, found out that Sony also uses Linux. Canon uses a proprietary system (DryOS). I don't trust linux for real time applications...maybe it's just goPro that sucks.

Have you talked to GoPro? They can be really understanding and just send you a new one.

Edit: nvm just saw your post on this page.

No longer at GoPro? What happened?

Early runs of the GoPro Hero 3 Black were botched. GoPro issued an apology press release and I was able to exchange it for a newer model.
