I dig the Enfields. They seem like a "real" adventure bike. :ride

[edited].....To each his own.....I'd argue that in todays market a $6500-$7000 MSRP is not that bad. Don't forget, we are in the age of $12.5k MSRP 600 Sportbikes....

[who knows this better than you?] - I offer that we're in the age of lotsa unsold $12.5k 600 SSs which can't be financed....

I LOVED that movie. Watching them ride that gnarly stuff on those Enfields made me giggle. Huge respect for them. I wish their other movies were on iTunes.

Uhh, was that riding a Real Enfield? Or one of those made in India Enfields?

I just wonder how little pride a rider has in themselves and this country, to buy something made in India...because of what? It's cheaper?....What's next? made in some country that's name ends in Stan?

You can't buy a new "Real" Enfield anymore.

My understanding is that the original tooling was sold to what is now Royal Enfield a long time ago.

From Wikipedia:

Royal Enfield was the name under which the Enfield Cycle Company made motorcycles, bicycles, lawnmowers and stationary engines. This legacy of weapons manufacture is reflected in the logo, a cannon, and their motto "Made like a gun, goes like a bullet". Use of the brand name Royal Enfield was licensed by the Crown in 1890. The original Redditch, Worcestershire based company was sold to Norton-Villiers-Triumph (NVT) in 1968. Production ceased in 1970 and the company was dissolved in 1971.[1]

In 1956 Enfield of India started assembling Bullet motorcycles under licence from UK components, and by 1962 were manufacturing complete bikes. Enfield of India bought the rights to use the Royal Enfield name in 1995. Royal Enfield production, based in Chennai, continues and Royal Enfield is now the oldest motorcycle brand in the world still in production with the Bullet model enjoying the longest motorcycle production run of all time.[2]

Define "real".

Let me see, if you're Indian, you live in India, and you're going on a ride in India, is it just possible that pride - among other factors such as import duties - might induce you to ride an Indian Enfield?

I think it's the same factory and equipment. Just not British owned?

This tooling for these bikes went to India in the 50's. However, the stuff that Teddy is selling is the result of significant modernization - including a pretty much all new 'unit' engine, fuel injection, etc. - designed and put into production in the past 2 or 3 years. Necessary to meet Euro 3/4/5 regulations as well as EPA and CARB.

I didn't say squat about buying, I was replying to a post of a video (which I didn't watch, so just saw the Speedo or Tacko at the bottom of the picture at the bridge)....And I was asking..is that a Real, Enfield or one made in India.

How could that be twisted to buying? Can't BARFers read, anymore?

But if they can't read, That would explain, not being able to read the Made in India tag.

No, you replied to my post with a crapload of judgment about peoples' pride in their country and buying bikes made in India. Can't you read your own posts? :twofinger

Yes, it appears they have stopped wrapping the wires in cloth, which is handy for when it rains...:thumbup

I have seen a couple Indian made Enfileds that have found their way here over the years when they were making them *exactly* to the original spec and these new ones are a huge improvement.

If you want something a little more retro/vintage in appearance and feel, it is an alternative to Triumph for sure.

I guess I can't read because I am part Indian.:ride:twofinger

I was talking to a crazy person on the phone and was entertaining myself by posting. It didn't have my entire attention.:laughing

Hey, yeah, look at you riding a rice rocket. Good job being a racist and an dunce at the same time, hypocrite. :p

I mean, if YOU had any pride, why aren't you riding an American bike?

Yeah, this is my first post, but I'm not new to forums. I came to this place because I found this thread, about a bike I'm going to buy because it's pretty damn interesting. I don't need a huge HD or a 200mph splat machine... so while I'm having some liesurely fun you can burnout donuts grinding your kneepads around me at 100mph.

*pat pat* Good boy. Sorry I'm all out of dog treats. :p

My understanding is that the original tooling was sold to what is now Royal Enfield a long time ago.

The tooling was shipped to India so that an Indian factory could be used to help Royal Enfield UK fulfill a contract with the Indian Army for several thousand 350cc Bullets in 1954.

The same factory continued to make the same early 50's model Bullet ever since.
While for many years, they didn't come up to the quality standard of English made Royal Enfields, they've always been "real Royal Enfields", even though trademark law prevented them from using the word "Royal" on the badges attached to the gas tanks.
Since they acquired rights to use the original name and improved the build quality to a better standard, I'm perfectly happy to consider them to be "real Royal Enfields".
For the record, I own two UK build Royal Enfields, including the one I posted a picture of in this thread last month, and major parts of a dozen or so engines, several frames (just sold a matching numbers set of engine/frame/gearbox from a rare 1960 "VAX Interceptor")
