Hi Folks,

I was splitting (faster than I should have been) along 880S in some unusually heavy traffic during lunch time today. As I got out of the traffic I heard some sirens and horns behind me. Presuming an ambulance, I pulled from 1/2 split to #2 lane, and saw in my mirror a CHP bike. I pulled over to the right of #2 lane to let him pass. At this point, I look in my mirror and he isn't behind me anymore. "Good" I think to myself. Though I look ahead of me and don't see anyone... I turn left and see this CHP DIRECTLY next to me on the left :wow . Our legs are touching. He leans over, grabs my arm, and proceeds to yell at me (which I'll admit I did deserve).

Keep in mind while this is all happening, we are travelling, locked together, at 50mph through some reasonably heavy traffic.

I gave him the thumbs up, he released me and proceeded down the road as I exited. I didn't get a ticket, since I was not breaking the law (I was only being dumb).

Anybody had an experience like this before?

I see too many riders that are line splitting at a delta of 25+mph

Sounds like you lucked out that he didn't give you a reckless riding ticket.

That could easily fall under basic speed law, especially when you even admit to riding faster than you should have been. Just because you were not going over 65, dont assume you cant be ticketed for speed.

Whoa, that seems pretty dangerous (for both of you). I'm not sure I would have reacted well to that...

OP, slow the fuck down while splitting and enjoy not having another point on your record. You lucked out on that part of your story.

The grabbing part... at 50 mph? That sounds like a road rage reaction to me. I know an officer who was riding a motorcycle while off duty. He was splitting when some douche in a truck grabbed him. He stopped the dude anyway, called dispatch to get a uniformed officer on scene and had the dude arrested for assault. DA charged the dude and he was convicted.

I gotta admit, this story sounds really bizarre.

I have to say that I've had an experience with an angry moto chp officer before. But to be honest, I think they generally see a lot of overly aggressive driving/riding. I can't blame them - after all, a calm message to tone down the driving/riding would probably go unheeded.

:wtf ..... He was probably trying to grab you out of that other dimension you were riding in ..

Seems you were most definitely breaking some laws and being dumb :rofl .. but I guess those laws didn't exist in the dimension you were in .. Thus why he pulled you back into this one :p

Was there a #46 or #93 on his CHP bike?

You guys crack me up! Sure there is always a law to be broken. ALWAYS! Regardless, I got the message, and I'm definitely going to be slowing down for my own sake.

I'm glad I didn't get a ticket that's for sure. Officer guy probably just had the feeling deep down in his plumbs that he wanted to touch my arm to make sure I was in this dimension :rolleyes

You got incredibly lucky.

I've been pulled over more than a few times with warnings in the recent past..
I attribute it to not looking fast, pulling right over, and being polite.

I would probably have a ticket if I were on a scraped up ex-track bike in flashy leathers with armor sticking out everywhere. (insert aerostich ad here)

I think you meant alpinestars; aerostich, track bikes, and armor go together like...Unirr and the track?:rofl:twofinger

He probably sped off to race direction to get you disqualified :twofinger

Take it as a warning and slow down in heavy traffic.

^^^Yea man that's all I need! I'm all for self preservation.

And I meant 'stiches are not flashy so they don't get the fuzz all riled up. My clear shield and glasses may have helped my case too.

"Who's this young punk splitting too fast?! ...oh, uhm sir please slow down you might aggravate your arthritis in that throttle hand..." lol
