looking at replacing grips on my trackbike. Are the grips for bmx bikes (at walmart lets say) the same as grips at cycle gear???? Would BMX grip work just as well??

next thing we know you will be putting air scoop on your pit bike.:laughing

I wouldn't see it as a problem as long as the diameter is the same. Although your the dirt bike grip won't take into account throttle tube dimension.

I've started running the motion pro grips and love them. Definitely need a little lube or compressed air to get them on, but once they're there, they'll never slip.

Plus one to Greg McLauritzen's Motion Pro suggestion. I think there's a hard and soft version too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the inside diameter of the left and right grips different?

I'm going to show my age here...:p Before there were BMX specific grips, we would use the left grips from dirt bikes. The throttle side was a bit too big.

I like Oury grips on my bicycles, but I have not found the MC/ATV versions yet--I know they make 'em.

Ditto here too. Those grips work better than whatever it was I had on before on my race bike. I'm planning on replacing the street bike grips with the same grip.

Bingo Motorcycle specific grips are the way to go!:thumbup

I have been using ODI grips* since I raced BMX bikes professionally growing up they make a road racing version of my favorite the "Ruffian." It is a single ply diamond type grip that doesn't feel super bulky. Plus at $7.95 they are a steal.

They also have a Dual Ply grip called the "Cush" it is a bit bigger pattern and I use it on the dirt bikes, I've used both but prefer the Ruffians for their minimalist feel and simple design. Retail is $12.95 on these pups.

*disclaimer yes I am sponsored by them so as not to stir up drama as has been the case in the past

I've also used the Spyder grips that Chase recommended they are super comfy, but on the dirt bikes we've had durability issues. I am sure the Motion Pro is a top notch product as well
