1. section you were cited for
22349(b) Speed
12509 (e) Motorcycle Permit/ Riding After Dark

2. city where you were cited
Jackson

3. your vehicle info (not required, but helps alot)
2000 ZX-12r

4. what the OFFICER TOLD YOU
"I got you on radar going 68 in a 45"

5. what you TOLD THE OFFICER
"That doesn't seem right, i was going like 62-63 tops according to my speedo"

6. a brief description of the location (ie...lights, what type of intersection, what type of street, etc.....)
I think its hwy 4 on that stretch of road. I was coming up out of jackson. There is a passing lane coming up the hill, and the speed limit is 55 there. I went up to about 62 (as i had just passed 2 cops at a gas station of the bottom of the hill) to pass a BIG ASS logging truck, while it was safe to do so. at the top of the hill the speed reduces to 45, long before i saw the sign i slowed down to roughly 48-50? I made the right to go back up the hill past the mcdonalds and he pulled me over there saying he got me on radar at 68 in the 45!

I also only have a permit, and was riding at night. I know im fortunate because he wrote me the ticket for 68 in a 55 and riding at night on a permit, instead of towing my bike. But what are the penalties associated with the riding at night on a permit? Whats the total damage going to be.

I've learned fighting ticket costs more money most the time. Perhaps its my shit luck but its been proven for me, and i should be elligable for traffic school, so ill probably just eat it. Im just curious if its gonna be a whole nother point for the Riding at night thing...what if i show up to my court date fully licensed...

A ZX-12 and you only have a permit?

Oh, as for the ticket: You admitted the violation to the officer (even if your speedometer is off, you still admitted to 18 over the limit). Pay the judge.

What he said...

wow your so lucky you got away with only a ticket, those impound fees are ridiculous. I remember when i got my car impounded from parking in downtown SF on non-parking hours. Came out to like $300+!! just to get my car out :thumbdown

Just be greatful and pay the judge, and get your L's man!

FAIL and FAIL

I love constructive posts. You are so helpful.

REGARDLESS, useless posts aren't needed, i was looking for an ESTIMATE of damages and i ALREADY ADMITTED GUILT. I don't plan to fight it. Im happy my shit didn't get towed.

Jesus could you be any less helpful?

Regarding the "ZX12 on a permit?" comment. I'm actually a really conservative rider, only push it on mountain roads, and im a firm believer that if you respect your machine anyone can ride anything. I've been on bikes since i was 5 years old. I'll admit not 170rwhp monsters, but i've always been on em. Besides i would have my license if my GODDAMN turning radius wasn't that of a '52 merc.

Yea, that was the plan, I just helped the ex-gf get her car out and she got hit about that hard too.

P.S. The pissed off vibe in my last post was directed to the first reply.

170rwhp+ inadequate turning skills = pain
please be careful and go the speed limit until you learn how to turn

Haha, i was talking about the VERY tight diameter circle in the license exam. As for turning, i know how to corner just fine. As a matter of fact i got my knee down this monday :)

Perhaps not constructive, but it does hold a lil truth. You know riding on a permit is not allowed yet still did it and instead of keeping quiet yoou still admitted to going almost 20 over the limit.

Just because he didnt say what you wanted him to say doesnt mean he wasnt right.

As for what you should expect to pay, check out your counties fine schedule, it should be listed and then add the traffic school amount. I'd guess somewhere in the realm of like $200. For the riding on a permit at night, that I have no clue about that.

To clear up that confusion, and i understand how it could be easily confused due to my wording. I admited to going 7-8 over in the 55 zone. NOT in the 45 zone.

Thanks for the helpful response psycho

Borrow a smaller bike for the DMV test. It's an easy test - if I could pass it on a Gold Wing, anyone could.

If there was a /bow emote i'd give it. I went in and practiced it on my bike and steering locked i slowly moved out of the circle.

Hopefully i can borrow my buddy's honda 350 thing, dirtbike with turn signals. you know the business.

But really thats impressive!

LoL I hope this was on a track otherwise that last ticket is nothing compared to what you are in for.

Try leaning the bike over more, you see motor cops doing it for a reason.

All you have to do is look where you want to go (not where you are afraid you are going to wind up), feather the clutch, modulate the throttle and counterbalance. Take the MSF class and you will be doing it easily. I was taught be a motor officer who saw me at the DMV on a Sunday afternoon. He knew me, took pity on my weak skills and taught me how to do it right.

I made it through the Eliminator once on the Wing as well - on the 20th try. Last time I tried it (on a Concours), all I did was have to keep replacing cones. That Wing was an extension of myself.

+1 on Ateamer advice to take the Keyhole test. Best to do it as soon as possible. Can use in court to soften up the Judge. Apologize for riding at night, say you took and passed the M1 driving test a few weeks afterwards. Ask for Traffic School on the speeding ticket.

If all goes well, the permit violation would be dropped. Pay the fine on the speeding ticket. Ticket info hidden from insurance companies so the premium won't change.

Search Key Hole test, lots of good info on best methods. ZX12 autta be one of better bikes for the key hole. Only one wheel needs to be between the lines.

Actually, the guy's bike may not physically make the turn. I had a 955 Daytona that would simply not turn that sharp. My giant R1150gs would have done it no problem... completely different turning radius. So, I would take a GoldWing over this guy's bike any day of the week for that test.

With that said, cut the excuses OP. We all (well, at least most of us) found a way to get a legitimate M1 license. If you have to take the MSF course you should (then you wouldn't be required to take the riding test, just the written.)
