Recently purchased an 07 gsxr 750. Progressive is charging me 200 a month full coverage!
Im 27 I totaled my car in january other then that i have a clean record. Ive had my m1 for six months and have perviously insuranced two Svs with them. Is this price common? or should i change companies. Geico charges same

yes, it's common to get shafted for insurance premiums as a new rider with a recent accident (i assume you're at fault), especially when you buy one of the most popular (ly wrecked and stolen) supersports.

sure you should shop around, but be prepared for disappointment

Check state farm. Got any other vehicles? AMA membership? Recent msf?

You completely destroyed a car, and you're asking for full coverage on a late model powerful and often wrecked sportbike.

That's sort of to be expected at this point, unfortunately. "Other than that, my record is clean" isn't a clean record.

Based on your age, crash/claim experience and vehicle choice the insurance bean counters have calculated this is the price that suits your profile.

It's not your fault. Blame all of the other riders in your insurance profile bracket :(

Yep, that sounds about right.. Keep in mind that Progressive is one of the cheapest companies around too.

Drop to liability only, and you'll see what a huge difference your premium is.

Let's see, young, inexperienced, likely single, recent total loss claim on driving record, high powered oft-wrecked/stolen sportbike...nope, can't see why your insurance would be high. Seriously, shop around, but I doubt you're going to get a low rate with those stats. Oh and always a good idea to price the insurance out before you buy the bike.

yup

Ask for an insurance quote on a Ninja 250.

It will drop steeply after a couple years of safe riding. My 675 was $1600/yr when it was new, now it's $230/yr with lower deductibles. That's with no tickets or wrecks. The S3 was $900/yr when I got it last summer, and it's come down a little already too.

Sticker SHOCK!!!! :laughing

Well I guess that's one good reason for getting older, $140 a year baby! Clean record.

I have viking insurance... It's a super great company I have had a claim and they paid out in 2 weeks

What Stan said, your monthly will be your yearly if you switch to liability only

Oh, you're also getting effed in the a because you've only had the m1 for 6 mos

1) Newbie Rider
2) Young Newbie Rider
3) RACE bike.
4) Mediocre driving record. (Crashes are bayad, mmmmmkay)

Duh. Your Insurance should be expensive. Statistically speaking, your age, lack of experience, and stupid fast bike are more likely to end up in an insurance payout than, say, a 42 year old male, with a clean driving record, and 24 years of experience on motorcycles.
