HadesOmega Preps CactusPuncherDR650 for LAB2V 2018

Haha it was on Day 1 the first video and I bypassed it. I met someone I've ridden before in a previous event and he knew a way around it. I think they should have that alternate route because that downhill sucks. I definitely wouldn't take an adventure bike down that. I think it may have been a different hill than last time. I didn't get a look at it though, I was like I'm good =P

It was the same downhill this year according to Drew. There was a significant group of riders milling about on top psyching themselves out as I rolled by, over, and down. :laughing Got to take a break at the bottom while our riders regrouped and enjoyed the circus entertainment provided back up on the hill. :rofl

It really isnt that bad unless you were on a GS. :dunno Cactus Puncher would have owned it. :thumbup

Yeah I put the 13t sprocket on just for it but I don't regret taking the alternate route I'd never ridden that trail before and it was fun =)

HadesOmega X Cactuspuncher VS LAB2V Part 7
With fatigue and exhaustion setting in I ride through the Nevada desert towards the final goal Las Vegas. In the way stands a rocky trail...

Good stuff Merlin. When you say “Go Left “ or “Go Right” are you looking at your GPS or seeing the streemers to show you the way? I never see you advance the roll chart.. one wrong fork and you could get way off track.

Yeah that roll chart I said F that a long time ago, I was having problem with it earlier also. But yeah I'm talking about the GPS. I'm looking at where the line is going. Basically I use the GPS and streamers. I look at the GPS and see the direction the track is going and go that way and usually when there is a turn or some sort there is the blue and pink streamers. It works REALLY well, last time I blew a bunch of turns but I was very good with the navigation this year. :) :ride

I wish my trailtech vapor had a handble bar mounted reset switch. I found out that the other trailtechs have this feature but the vapor doesn't grr.... So I have to pretty much stop everytime I want to reset my trip meter for the rollchart and waste time trying to press the 2 buttons simultaneously.

Part 10 was killer!

Your bash plate took a really hard hit!

I liked it when the guy was helping you and he says -
"Put it in second and slip the shit out of the clutch" Yep, that did it..

Yeah i was surprised it works! Shows how good I am at rock crawling haha. It's just one of those things you don't learn unless you ride it a lot. It's like riding sand we don't have a whole lotta sand to ride here in the bay area so you just don't get enough practice riding it same with rock gardens. But yeah I don't like riding my DR through that kind of stuff but it'll do it like a tank!

But yeah that was the famous Red Rock Canyon rock garden I have been hearing about it didn't disappoint, I wish I could have gone into it with a fresh body instead of a tired one =/ It was TOUGH me and the bike were overheating in the canyon. You don't see it in the video but i took a lot of breaks. But I knew we were close to the end so I started loligagging more haha

Also I don't know why the video turned out overexposed, I guess the light hitting the trail was too bright or something, it looks worse in real life.

Oh yeah also about the bash plate I looked at where it hit and I think if I didn't have skid plate I would have hit the engine case and it would have been all bad.

That skid plate saved your bacon Merlin! What happened there was it target fixation or just get off balance? Great vid for sure!

I think it's was bad body position or something. I remember when I came up for that one my plan was to try and splat it but I hit it at an angle instead of straight on and down I went instead of up. I kinda pictured in my mind what I wanted to happen and then it happened but not what I wanted to happen hah.

Love the vids man, thanks!

Question on the roll chart. I noticed you never used it. I know it's a requirement for the run, but how useful is it?

Oh dude that rollchart, well I broke my rollchart holder a while back and I bought this one and it sucks. you have to tape it onto the rollers and I messed it up on the first day. If you don't tape it right or the tape slips it just spins on the spindle. :( The frustrating thing about rollchart holders is sometimes they can't hold a whole rollchart, you have to divide them up. It takes time to load it up, I'm totally put off with rollcharts. I was trying everything I could do to save time because last LAB2V I ran out of time. Also I have a trailtech vapor and you have to hold the left and middle button down to reset it so it pretty much requires me to stop everytime I need reset the computer. To save time I just use the tracks. I actually bought a cycling computer just so I can use it with a rollchart because I can reset it with one hand. I can't believe no1 has designed a simple rally computer yet :( Most modern bikes you can reset the trip with a button the handle bar or dash by holding the button down. Not the Vapor :(

This is the 2nd LAB2V I've ridden and after the first one I learned that the tracks are easier and save time to navigate and I use the streamers to double check if I'm on course. So you notice I say left here right here in the videos and I look for a streamer and I point it out. That's the best and fastest navigation in my experience with LAB2V. They say to use the rollcharts first then the tracks second. I do it the other way around. I usually get bored and frustrated with the roll chart half way through the event also haha. They also tell you not to ride alone too but I still do I'm a renegade :ride

It could be I haven't learned to use that moose rollchart holder well yet. my last one had the slits in the spindle so all you had to do is fold the rollchart into an arrow and stick it into the slit. Sometimes there are errors in the rollchart also. So it's good to have multiple forms of navigation to double check you are on track. The TAT is a good example of this because the rollchart will say one thing and the tracks will say another and you have to figure out which one is right haha. One thing the rollchart is good for in LAB2V is informing you of what is coming up ahead like a hard/easy splits, dangers, notes, etc... And if I had knew that I could take the easy way out of lovell canyon I might have haha.

Part 12 - Finish VLOG
There will definitely be an unforgettable event of a lifetime that is forever immortalized through this video series. Thanks to everyone that came along for the ride and District 37 for putting a world class event.

Here the pictures I bought from Grumpy. I am not very happy with the price I did the cheapest thing and bought the cheapest print and scanned it. I can't believe digital copies are more expensive, its like you don't really have to produce anything it's already there right!? The pictures weren't very good also. I know it's a lot of work to go out into the desert and take pictures of people riding all day but there's like 400+ riders I'm sure more people would buy pictures if they were less $$$ Also to top it off the pictures have watermarks on them that I photoshopped out and they wrote on the back of the photos with a sharpie so when I scanned them I have to edit out the marks as well. You know me I'm el cheapo! Also I paid money for the photo I don't think they should have any kind of markings or watermarks on them.

Showgirl picture that's the victory photo right there! You gotta get that one! It's better than 2016 year's because its like they use a brown garbage bag for the backdrop on that one. You would think they could get the whole bike in the photo right?
