Handle Bar Or Ape hangers

Well, it's personal preference, I suppose. But they make no sense. First off, you can't just lean on them like standard bars (not talkin' clip-ons). Thus, you must always maintain a grip. And you must continually use that grip to keep your hands on the bars. And if it was so comfortable and practical, you'd see a lot of bikes with that kind of bar. For the rare few, ape-hangers might be comfortable. For the majority, they're an abomination.

And I'm not even mentioning (well, I suppose I am) the fact that it puts your body upright and into the wind like a sail. If you never go over 30 mph, that might work. But even then you'll get tired holding yourself up against the wind blast.

It's amazing how much air the body catches. When I get to the top of the hill on 280 the wind gets strong there at times and when I tuck into the bubble I automatically pick up 5MPH! So that is a real consideration.

Noway thats the joys of riding a motorbike.you can rest your hands with apes, unless their big ass ape hangers.i ride everyday with no windscreen its not that bad, unless your're a noob rider and cant handle a bit of wind.

But to the OP i just checked the youtube vid..There not really ape hangers you should be fine with them..maybe it depends how tall you are as well..im 6'1 i dont have any trouble with my bars.

Yep. I remember stopping by the local Harley dealership just to give a Harley a test ride. (My ST sure looked out of place!) I ended up with a Fat Boy and as soon as I left the parking lot and headed north on 280, I just had to laugh at how ridiculous the riding position was. My spine was vertical, my hands about shoulder height, and my feet were stuck out in front of me like I was getting a ob/gym exam. And even at a modest 60 mph, it felt like I was going to get blasted off the bike and I needed both hands on the bars to stay upright. What a stupid riding position.

No ape hangers give you much more control. In fact they had to ban them from moto gp, wsbk, ama, afm, wera, and every stock motorcycle.

Try some mini-apes. I always thought I'd hate them, until I actually tried them... unbelievably comfortable!

If you really want comfortable get a bmw.

I was looking for that one. Thanks!

(Now copied to my motorcycle pix folder.)

I have 10inch TBars w/ forward controls and I have zero problem in the wind and I don't have to keep both hands on my bars. Even on long rides they are very comfortable. Abomination is a bit ridiculous dont you think? Either way OP you will only need to extend your cables if you go higher then 12inch bars.
