Handlebar Speakers

So you're gonna hook up external speakers that you need to play ultra-loud because you're wearing ear protection, or wear no ear protection and guarantee hearing issues in a few years, while bugging other people around you?

I know I'm not as old as a lot of you, but I've been riding with no ear protection since 1999. I haven't had any hearing issues crop up yet - Not saying that it won't ever happen, but I feel like I'm doing okay now.

As for bugging people around me - Not many people to bug in the middle of nowhere on the 5 or 101... or any other long distance straight freeway that I roll two up on (as mentioned earlier).

Viz - Thanks for the link!

I don't know if the following makes any difference to you OP, but for what it's worth:

I've got some real cheap-o speakers on my Roadstar. They came with the bike from PO, thought I'd tear them right off, but they really grew on me. Everyone's right, in my experience, at speed rock music just turns to fuzz ('rock' is vague, I listen to a lot of punk), but hip-hop comes through pretty darn well. I imagine anything without distortion would.

Still not gonna get the nuances of the music, that's for sure, but you can definitely absorb the energy.

Just in case you're into that kinda thing...

Hearing issues are not always as obvious as tinnitus.
You can lose a lot of your hearing capabilities without noticing it. :afm199

As said, it's slow and insidious. One day you'll suddenly realize you're saying 'what?' an awful lot of the time.

Ware yer hear plugs. :thumbup

Or your wife will start accusing you of not listening. :laughing

Wear your damn plugs kids. I worked as a sound guy in my youth, played in bands, and rode bikes with no plugs till my mid-thirties. I'm surprised I can hear at all, quite frankly.
