Drone racing looks very addicting!!!
Most of the racers quite their day jobs! :laughing
I was watching it with my son last night, very intense stuff!

I watched it once before. Looks like a lot of fun. Being into RC flying, I can certainly appreciate the type of skill it takes to run those things so fast and accurately.

I'd have one, but haven't focused enough to set aside the money to save up for all of the FPV stuff. Building the quad would be relatively easy.

What's really cool is that the audience can see what the pilots are seeing, there are so many different angles that the spectators can get on the action, definitely a great spectator sport!

They said those quads are flying at 80 mph. Definitely some precision flying to get through those courses at full speed for most of them.

Its one of those sports that I could watch once and never need to see again. Well not unless they arm them and start having dogfights.

Just last week a friend and I were wondering when drone racing was going to become legit. Looks like it is. Watched a video a couple years ago (YT, of course) of racing in a warehouse, I was hooked. That video didn't have lighted gates, or showers, or hanging paper streamers.

Is racing being shown on a televised channel?

I'm hoping for combat drones; not projectile weapons, of course. More like Medieval horse combat, I suppose, with miniature lances. I recall vividly watching two guys with combat gliders dueling atop a dam face (for the updraft) - those wings maneuvered like bats.

Search on DRL Drone Racing, they have a series where they are working towards a championship.

I saw it on ESPN 2?, or something. I knew that the sport was growing, but WOW!!

I'm an avid RC (Plane) guy. I never got into the Multirotors or Helis.

I watched it for about 10 minutes, then I moved on to the real Quality Television; SyFy Channel!!! :laughing

I was watching some kind of drone acrobatic competition on TV (don't remember what channel) and it was just slightly more exciting to watch than watching paint dry. Didn't really do anything for me. Like whoopee you can make your drone do flips and come within inches of a pylon. I'm sure if was fun for the pilot but didn't translate well into the TV screen.

Major drone racing competition going on just down the road from my home last weekend, at Kualoa ranch ( windward Oahu ) - they had them running up and down a mostly-empty valley. Who knew this was a thing ?

I can't see myself watching a bunch of fat nerds flying RC toys. Doing it yourself IRL is fun for about 10 minutes. Watching someone else do it on TV is less than pointless. I think I'd rather watch Honey BooBoo's mom belly flop into a pool of Jello.

They're racing on a very cool track and you can see the lines they're taking through the course which is really interesting.

I think that I'd enjoy this kind of racing, though rebuilding the drone after crashing it might be a bit of a pain.

Kind of reminded me of playing unreal tournament at the highest levels in team play.

I dunno... my buddy is into this stuff and I've given it a whirl and I just can't get into it. I'd rather shoot it down than fly it. :laughing

Yep, I have a Tiny Whoop and let me tell you they are way fun. The goggles are the expensive part ($428 delivered) but the rest is pretty cheap. So far it's just me and my buddy racing but it has been a blast.

I am an accomplished r/c racer, and airplane/heli pilot. I built a 250 class quad and it is quite a little rocket and interesting to fly. The quads never appealed to me too much and now with the goggles on the tiny whoop... so fun and challenging. Can't wait to get camera set up on the 250 and see what kind of trouble I can get in.

I saw the DRL on TV and while it may not be for everybody, I liked it a little. I have noticed some people absolutely cannot watch it and get motion sickness. Guess we all can't be Top Gun candidates :)
