Has CHP deployed the Ford Interceptor SUV's yet?

Shame. You guys should've been able to take them out on a demo...get a feel for them.

They bought us Impalas a couple of years ago. Outfitted them only to find that it was too small for patrol work. They are now relegated to the Airport lol

You guys have an SUV Interceptor as well in the Phelan yard Eddie. Saw the guys outfitting it- maybe for a trial period?

We tend to buy a couple of different vehicles to see what works best for us. That's why we had Kawi/Harley/BMW/Honda all at once in our motor fleet.

I have a hard time believing the Chevy's will hold up. They seem to have very poor door locks and coach work. I'm curious to see how long they last.
I use the Crown Vic front suspension in cars I build, so I am excited to see them appearing in junkyards. The 05 and up stuff is just starting to trickle in now.

Oakland and Emeryville PDs seem to have the new Exploders in their fleets now.

I disagree. Sure, the cabin roof is higher, as is occupant seat height- but the bulk of the CG is still much lower. Unless you have some CG data points, I ain't buying the thinking.

Do you really hear what you're saying here? An SUV that is less likely to roll over?

Yes, I know what I wrote, and you seem to be changing the premise.

I responded to (and still think), the (old) Crown Vic isn't particularly better at not rolling over than the modern SUV Interceptor. Indeed, I think the new vehicle to be more stable in that regard. :thumbup

And extensive testing has proven you to be correct.

I just can't see that being the case. Crown Vic's aren't exactly roll over prone. Is this new SUV really low and wide?

There are many factors that determine vehicle's tendency to roll. I can easily see an SUV besting a sedan, given certain design parameters for each. Hell, my wife's Nissan Murano will smoke many sedans on a twisty road. ('Gave a 'Vette driver fits once on a drive down Hwy 1 from Mendocino once. But he likely didn't know how to drive.)

It's not an SUV. It's a Taurus chassis with an Explorer-like body on it.

yup.

according to my buddy that works on the EVOC staff, they cant even get the damn things to slide, much less roll over. that includes tossing them into corners on the high speed track and driving them on the skid pan. apparently the electronic driver aids are very restrictive.

I guess I'll be seeing those notices soon. :laughing

Recalls happen all the time, yes this is a bigger one. They fix things and life goes on.

Even if you can't now, you'll be able to buy used ones in a few years at auction.

I've said it over and over - the last vehicle you want to own is a retired police car. Especially if it is a retired San Jose PD car lol

If they weren't Chevy's, I'd totally buy a retired Danville PD car...
