Have you moved on from sport bikes as you get older?

have an MT9 but i've been eyeballing harleys lately
Take a look at the used bike market. There are so many great deals in my area it's hard not to buy another bike I don't need. Also, Harley, and motorcycle manufacturers in general, are struggling so you might be able to negotiate down the price of a new bike.

I rode my Street Glide yesterday and had a blast. Guys on sport bikes were flying past me at well over 100 mph on the interstate and all I could think of was that used to be me and thank goodness I didn't get busted by a cop or worse, injure myself of someone else. You get used to the poor stopping distance and lean angle on a big Harley as compared to a sport bike, but my '24 RG handles pretty decent and brakes pretty decent for what it is. I may buy another sport bike one day but for now, I'm not missing it.

rode the 02 ZX6R on Friday, mostly to keep it running but still about 25 miles of twistys.

Is this a sport bike? Or is it a "step-down" bike?

CBR1000RR engine tuned for peak torque at 4500 - 6000RPM
Looks like Sportish to me.. and super nice.

To me a spr0tbile has clip ons (or came with them).

There are a lot of "sport" bikes these days, but when this thread came up I considered the above as the go to reference.

I completely agree. Except my bike. :giggle:

I made a switch early on, and will probably never go back.
Like a lot of others said, why compromise yourself to uncomfortable riding position for no performance benefit.
My last sport bike was not even a real sport bike, 2002 VTR1000 Superhawk.
I switched to motards and supernakeds like 1290 Superduke/Aprilia Tuonos, Ducati Hyper.
I absolutely love how sport bikes look, still have a soft spot for late 90s GSXR 600/750.
I would prefer function over form every time, and big nakeds do it for me.
Having owned a number of Sport Bikes, and being a renowned know-it-all on that particular topic, I have to take issue with your claim that a VTR1000F Superhawk/Firestorm was not a real sport bike.
Having ridden that particular model for a decade or so, along with a significant number of other Sport Bikes including,.possibly the most "sporty" of all sportbikes, the Ducati 916 and similar bikes,.the VTR was easily the bike I found to be the best all around "sporting" machine I've ever owned.
Yes, I peeled off a few slightly better lap times at Sears Point, and T-hill on that aforementioned 916 but all things considered, aside from that type of riding, the VTR was a bike that was by far a better companion for most applications.

Of course, I've pretty much hated all the inline 4s I've ever ridden, except my 82 Katana gs1000sz.
I hated my cbr f4i, R1, and GSXR (1990 750cc) I like my Sportyness lumpy and able to leap out of corners like a scalded baboon.

143hp, 472lbs in weight, I'd dub it a hooligan.
Yeah, I found myself at the end of my last X-country ride realizing that my last two bikes ST1300 & FJR1300 were a great bikes but just too flip'n heavy anymore.
So I started a search for a low weight, high powered, big braked, short wheelbase, well suspended motorcycle. I was unaware of the CB1000R model. But I started to learn about them. In a lot of circles they are nicknamed Street Fighters. I learned that the 2012 - 2016 had the most mid-range torque.
I'm in the process of modifying the ergonomics for it to become my long-haul bike. There is a lot to do and I'm already behind schedule. But idle time is not good for me.;)

For sure a modern day sportbike. But still not a spr0tbile.

Chasing you and Piney on 36 made me realize my big pig is no where near a sport bike.
I call it sportish and it is a great Rally rig, but getting on something around 400lbs is a good idea.

Good wishes with it John. Fun bike. :thumbup

Now....Find some twisties and get to work. :ride

I switched two weeks ago. Perhaps 10 years too late. What a difference in comfort.

To answer the exact words of the OP....No.
I'm 64 and pulling my GSXR1000 from track duty for a return to the street.
It's been a slow and satisfying process.
I'll post a few more as I get closer, then a few "On Location".
