Helimot moving out of state

Hmmm, I've still not heard back regarding my glove repair. I'll have to try and give them a call next week.

Anyone make a purchase from the online store or hear from Helmut/Linda?

I had a back and forth with him a couple months back about a repair. Unfortunately he assessed that mine are toast and I need a new set, and he can't really do the same custom fitting as he did when it was F2F.

It was through email: helmut@helimot.com

So my beloved Helimots are well and truly dead. I was just about to buy a replacement set, but since he is now out of state, the lack of a local fitting option means I may as well consider other manufacturers. Chances are I'll end up sticking with him, but I may as well hear some opinions.

For reference, I very much like his minimal use of seams, design of the underside for good feel on the controls, and the soft armor. I have a set of winter-weight Racers, so these would be for a lighter unlined glove with a full gauntlet.

Looks like the closest competitor is the Lee Parks, I did read the City Bike review of his Sumos. Anybody have experience with both, or an alternative to suggest?

I always drew a trace around my hand and they did custom fitting for my gloves. I'm guessing you could email/mail/fax them a trace and they can do that for you?

Here is from the man himself:

As you recall you had to wear the Original Size and after wearing them for a while come back to us and we changes the sizing on the fingers you would have like to shorten.

Well I guess since we have some of the XL in stock now, we certainly can do that. But we will not adjust fingers before they are worn, as it leads to way to many problems.

Whammy sez road trip and get those done to your spec by the ppl who made them.
Gets no simpler than that. take a trip to Reno already.:thumbup:ride

I have experience with both Helimot's and Parks' gloves. Parks give great feel but don't have nearly the protection as Helimot's and Helimot's have pretty good feel already.

Helimots seem to last longer.

Great idea and Reno would be an easy day trip, but isn't he in Oregon somewhere? Can't take the time off work just now I'm afraid.

Exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for, thanks.
