Not so. A good 951 will be 10k a good e30 m3 will be over 20k. a good m6 will be around 15 a track ready e30 325 can be done for under 10k. You could do a swapped e30 for under 15k with a S52/S50b30 and some decent suspension and brakes.

Well, if he's looking for a money pit, trying to turn an E24 M6 into something track-ready (and then using it accordingly) would do the trick. $1200 for a popped Brake accumulator, piles of warped rotors and a few ripped-out swaybar mounts or the holy grail of a trashed crank due to a spun harmonic balancer to name a few. BTDT.

OTOH, the e30 is a great idea. Screw the M3 though, the I6 can be made into a much better mill. 325is FTW. And there's a ragtop version...

I gotta v70 wagon recently as my daily truck....so far bullet proof with perfect compression and a nice new clutch (that took 9 goddamn hours to install cuz Volvo decided that the subframe should come so that shops can chanrge $2k to install a $200 part).

Had Karman ghia's before....eh, jsut a small bug, no advantages to them.
Yes miata fits the bill perfectly and i found a few perfect 94-97 examples that i was ready to buy, but everytime i find one, im reminded that at 6'4 i simply dont fit.....(tis why i have 91 super fun cheap capri thats going for sale soon)

Yeah, leaning towards a fast FUN roadster...

.....and I was FSP regional champ in a 1970 2002 a few years back....im 2002'd out. not really that fun. 3.0csl would be pimp though.

Note; this is not my car but I've always loved Fiat 124's:

Please - SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY! Bid ONLY if you have funds available and are ready to purchase. Bidders with less than five positive feedbacks - please contact me prior to bidding.

When I purchased this Fiat it was in running condition but had a blown head gasket. After removing the head, I considered it only made sense to remove the engine also. The block will need blasting and repainting.

The car has 111k and was running smoothly accept for the head leak. I have spoken with a local Fiat factory technician who quoted me under $1000 for the block and head rebuild. I cannot guarantee it but the internals are very likely to be within factory specification and so should only require a cylinder honing and new rings. When the car was running the guages and lights were all working as they should.

The '82 is arguably the best year for the Fiat Spyder - it has the 5-speed, fuel injection and power windows. The tires are near new. The soft top is fair - has a crack in the rear panel. The paint and body look great and the interior is intact with no rips. This is a California car and has a very clean, virtually rust free underside. All removed parts are neatly stored in boxes and none of them are missing. The cylinder bores are very smooth with no scoring. As a lot of the work has already been done, this will make a very easy restoration project and once rebuilt, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing first hand the true condition of everything under the hood plus you'll have a fast-appreciating classic sports car.

I hate to sell the car but I am forced to as I need the money for a house. I have described the car as honestly and as accurately as possible. Please contact me if you have any questions. I have more pictures available upon request and I will be happy to take more. I am advertising the car elsewhere and I reserve the right to end the listing early if necessary. The title clear and is in my name. A $500 non-refundable deposit is required via cash or Paypal within 24-hours of auction close. Balance is to be by cash or check. Title will be transferred only after funds have cleared. Car is sold NON-RUNNING, AS IS, no warranty expressed or implied. If you have any questions, please ask BEFORE bidding. Thank you.

I've got a 914. You are more than welcome to PM me to discuss.

I would probably choose to go the Alfa/Triumph route if I could start again.

.

Fix the battery tray rust, rebuild a sideshift with new bushings. Bore and stroke to 2.2ltrs, redline in sc mountains for the next 70k miles, drop motor in 45 mins to rebuild...whats to discuss? Stock old 914's suck, trust me i know. Built ones are stupid fun

Correct Alpha's and tr6's are way sexier though!

I would buy that 2002 just for the ronals. 914's are nice but after having one I can't recommend one to anybody.

jt2- it doesn't cost that much but they do have issues and are poor track cars.
The m is a good car and has a lot of little differences that make it a great basis to start from. a 6cyl version would be fantastic. However if its gonna be tracked make sure its not very low. They have a snap toe change at teh end of their travel. For this kinda money I bet you could find an mcoupe as well. It would have to be an S52 but thats still a good place to start.

Yep - don't mean to threadjack, but was curious what BMW model/year V4 was referring to. I always thought that a few year old BMW was a pretty reliable car..

pre bangle cars are. The new ones have a lot mroe electronics and a lot mroe can go wrong. Plus with the modern car design a minor shunt can cause serious issues. I've seen O2 sensors abs sensors and all sorts of things need to be replaced after a minor incident. It's like this on almost all cars made today though. The e39 chassis was the last really solid car made. e46's aren't bad but they do need more.

get any bmw car that's out it's 3 year factory warranty...

there's your money pit right there...

ask me how i knows....:thumbdown

Yeah I had a 325i convertible for many years. Loved that car, except after it was out of warranty it got to be another $500 every month to repair something or other. Finally someone rear-ended and totaled it on the expressway to put me out of my misery.

But my stupidest car purchase of all time was a Fiat X19. A true POS.

I can't believe it cost that much every month top repair.

And wow a fiat x1/9. You're lucky to be alive with that on your resume.

Porsche 914.

then let me drive it.

HA! x1/9 was very close to making the list.
None of you have expirience with the mighty corvair? (the convertible kind, not the kind you get high in)
Some asshole named Yenko made em fast or sumfin.

I would pay a premium for a pristine e30 325 convertible but its way to practicle, and i already have the most boring practical car built.
