Help me pick a sport tourer

Did anybody ask the OP to define "dirt"?

Any motorcycle is fine on a semi-groomed fire road / dirt road. I've taken my 1290 SDGT down dirt / gravel roads just fine, but I chalk that up to KTM DNA.
Rutted jeep roads / two track, maybe not - or, if you're going slow enough.
There is no perfect "do all" motorcycle that's really going to be "sport" in sport tourer, when something like a Ninja H2X with bags can be considered a "sport tourer". Adventure tourer?

My suggestion is a 2010-2011 Multistrada S with the good Ohlins suspension, $8k is possible in that range. It'll do offroad with something like a Michelin Pilot road 4-5 tire just fine. Jumps? Ruts / enduro? Yeah, no, but it'll be a great sport tourer for the 90%.

Yeah this is precisely what I'm looking into right now. It seems like 2012-2014's can be had for around my budget with reasonable miles. As I said earlier, the 10% dirt that I do is at worst gentle fire roads and usually just dirt main ones (think bald hills). I think it's the right bike for the job - just none of my old timer friends ride them, all GS's, so leery as to why.

The GS seems to be fairly reliable, mine has 150k mi on the clock, and no mayor repairs.
