HID Headlights.

Much much better.

I admit, I haven't looked lately, but the first set of LED retrofit lights that came out had a huge heat sink that required a large hole to be cut in the rear cover of the housing and/or small fans to cool said heat sink. Not good for dusty conditions. Have they gotten better? My bikes tend to get dirty and wet, even on the back of the headlight housing.

I had my BMW upgraded to HID for the main light (didn't bother with brights). I also have dual LED aux headlamps. People can see me coming.

DOT/non-projector housing then NO

I remember back in the day (1980s) I used hella aux driving lights. H-1 bulbs. not the fog light pattern. pretty much just straight forward. I aimed them low but depending on the grading I would blind a few people. including a cop that pulled me over. as least I can shut them off independent of the headlights.

these 6000K+ HID bulbs in DOT housing are just damn annoying even with tinting rear windows and auto dimming mirrors.

the lifted trucks with these make me want to empty a mag at them.

The best solution is to simply use halogen in halogen housings. But put the best bulb you can in there. No tint. Higher output. Then upgrade the wiring harness for the headlight so you avoid the typical voltage drops that most bikes have.

Then.....

Get yourself a quality set of driving lights. HID is good, but my preference is something from Clearwater which are LED. Either of these options will blow any regular halogen lense upgrade out of the water and it has the added plus of being able to be tranfered to another bike if you sell the current one. Other nice things about the Clearwater lights is that they are dimmable so you can tune them to riding conditions and they can be wired to instantly go full bright at the push of your horn button.
