Hillclimb, anyone?

I had something totally different in mid when I opened the thread.

I never did Larrison, but have done Cascade Lakes (ashland, OR) a couple times. Somewhere around here I still have my 2nd place trophy. :thumbup

I also did a video... but my production was all analog! VHS tape baby! (lot of work... I should digitize it someday)

Expecting something more like this.

Yeah this was the first time I've attended one and it was awesome to watch! Charles I used to edit VCR to VCR as well, don't miss those days one bit! You should definitely get your footage digitized, I'd love to see it!

It was actually quite a challenge to get good coverage as a single shooter, literally running up the hill to the next corner between run groups, with just a few gopros to loan out- I'd like to do another with additional shooters sometime, but I'd need to pay them and this was done with $0 budget.

Next time I want to do some driving too- I really wanted to run my miata but it wasn't prepped in time. :(

Thanks for the feedback folks! And sorry it's not dirtbikes!

I did do a dirtbike race not too long ago if that will appease you all... :ride

I will hopefully do the Hoopa Hillclimb next year, looks like too much fun!

Really enjoyed both videos, especially the Funky Chicken. Thanks!

Yep! I had one camera. So over the course of the weekend, I took video from each observation area, and several flagger stations. All the remaining gaps were filled by my own in-car footage. I timed the whole thing to a song from "the Matrix", so what I ended up with was a music video! lol.

Now that I think about it... actually this vid I'm talking about was the first digital editing I did. I did it with pinnacle studio 10... so this wasn't the vid I did the analog editing... the one I was thinking of was a 10min video of highlights that was played at a car show to promote autocrossing... too many years... going senile! Hmm, I wonder if I have a hard copy still around...:party

Here is something a little different that we have here in Colorado. The road is fully paved now on the Pikes Peak mountain. 2012 was the first year true sportbikes were allowed to race. I had never done it before. Here is my Gopro video. Mike

LOL, as I was watching the 1st vid, it sooooo reminded me of when I was a teenager and doing auto-x and so many of those people seem just like many of the people that took auto-x waaaaay too seriously and had special prepped cars that they had to trailer and would spend tens of thousands of dollars to drive for a minute at time, with no one trying to pass them.

I was fully ready to talk smack about them until they showed the dude who stacked his Corvette and I realized that I know that guy and he is a 'real' racer (vs racing against a clock) who can really drive a real race car and has a ton of experience. LOL.

me too; like 100 Dollar Hill on a dirtbike... Or the Widowmaker.

I thought of this at first....

I've never been to the Larison Rock Hillclimb, even though it's not far from where I am.
I go to the Emerald Empire Sports Car Club autocrosses, and even ridden as a passenger a couple of times (the Sunbeam Tiger was most fun), so I know a lot of the people who go there.

I would love to attend a moto hillclimb- but then I'd post it in the moto section! :p Wasn't sure where to post this one.

Charles- ahh Pinnacle studio! My first NLE rig was Premiere 5.1RT with Pinnacle's analog to digi hardware. Good times! Find the footage and post it up! :)

Mike, that's insane! Nice riding! Would love to make it out there sometime. To shoot or to ride! Love the speed of Pikes Peak- the PNW hills are small potatoes by comparison, they like to keep the speeds under 100mph for something they call "safety"...

Slydrite- Haha, yeah it definitely attracts a nerdier crowd than roadracing- geeking out on setups is half the fun! Many of them do roadrace as well- though they say nothing compares to cliffs and trees for sheer adrenaline!

There weren't any "loose" cars there this year but check out a very entertaining Datsun 510 from a few years ago:

Really wish we could organize one in the bay area- has anyone ever tried?

^ ah totally dude. To be clear, I think the concept of going balls out on a public road that has been closed for my fun is just fecking superb. I just had a reaction at the geeking out about the machinery, as you say.

I dunno, I'm know I'm different from many, but for me, the car or bike or whatever is just a tool or a paintbrush and the track is the canvas. I am the artist and that's what's most important. I know that sounds cliché, but I've always felt that way.

The only thing that matters to me about the vehicle is how competitive the vehicle is and can I be at the front with it - that's it. :nerd

I totally get that. Road racing can be much more a direct test of the drivers. That's why my next short docu project is going to be Chumpcar or Lemons. :D Anybody here done those events?
