Alright so I've been in the market for a helmet for some time now. I've considered Suomy's, AGV's and Arai and Shoei.

I'm not budgeting a crazy amount of money towards this since I also need a new jacket but I was wondering what you're thoughts were towards this model in particular by HJC.

HJC seems to be one of the more overlooked helmets by avid riders, At least from what I've seen personally. I wanted to know how this one would suit a rider driven towards spirited riding, light commuting and an occasional trackday. I'm not sure how close it would stand up to Suomy's weight wise/comfort wise all while still being able to hold up in the event I were to go down. Thanks in advance..

Never had a Suomy, had an Arai once (really old model), I've used and crash-tested KBC's, I even have a Roof RO10, but now my helmet rotation looks almost partial to HJC's.

My commute helmet is an HJC CS-R1, and both of my weekend helmets are an HJC FS-15 (Elbowz II and Prism). HJC helmets are some of the best fitting helmets I've had, even though I've got a head shape that would work with any type of helmet maker. Wind-noise muffling probably isn't the best, but I use ear plugs anyway regardless of the helmet. The CS-R1 is only aerodynamic at a particular angle, whereas the FS-15 is just aerodynamic, period. I love how the same visor can be interchangeable between the two models.

Never used the IS-16, but so far, I've been done right by HJC.

Only other helmet I wear now if not the HJC is my Rockhard Hustler helmet, and if you have to ask why, I'd have to ask, "have you seen one lately?" :twofinger

Nice, That's reassuring... :) I watched a review and it seems to be alright, It's not snell approved which wouldn't be such a big deal I assume.

I am on my fifth HJC, Whenever my current helmet gets stinky and nasty I go on newenough.com and buy whatever HJC is available for around a hundred bucks. Each one has been better than the last, current one even came with a pinlock shield and the insert.

Made the mistake of buying a $300 Scorpion once, total junk, don't plan to spend big money on a helmet again.

ive owned a shit ton of helmets and the hjc has its high points and low points. weight and noise are an issue but not such a big issue that you shouldnt buy. when it comes to helmets, having an expensive, spiffy arai or shoei is really nice, but its like a pair of sunglasses. they all do the same job (for the most part), and if you ruin a pair of cheap, gas station ones, you arent as mad as if you ruined your brand new gucci frames. thats my 2¢

Makes sense, the price is just about right for what it seems to be. I guess it would just be time to go try some on and see what they're really about.

I know Eastbay Motorsports sells them but off the top of your heads do they stock a decent amount of helmets? Mission motorcycles does carry hjc but they seem to be limited on models/sizes. Maybe making room for next years models, I have no idea.

Its like wearing a basketball on your head. Huge, heavy, noisy, no snell.

Godamnit. I ordered it 2 days ago.. The nice part is I only paid $145.00 but they do have a money back/exhange guarantee and they're in Oakland. www.helmetcity.com

I'll size up when it comes in. It can't be as bad as my Icon. That thing is horrible.

I've had an HJC IS-16 Scratch for 2-3 years now and I like it a lot. Not as heavy as some, the Sunshield is awesome, good airflow. Would I get the same model again? Yeah, no doubt. :thumbup

Got it today. Overall I like it, its light and seems to be pretty solid for the price.. I like the drop down shade on it too. Winning!! :)

Yeah, and the funny thing is even with the retractable shade its lighter than my wifes Arai which surprised the shit outta me!
