How do you pass the time at red lights?

I listen to music when I know my ride will be over 20 minutes long (meaning my typical commute). I have one earplug, one headphone. More for legal reasons than safety reasons. I can still hear what's around me just fine, and the music helps keep me from zoning out on the freeway. Around town I'm so focused on what I'm doing that I never notice which songs are on.

This. Except for the 1 earplug part. I just have one headphone in, and the other open, listening for dangers. I am probably going to try an earplug though. We'll see.

I always yell at my riding buddies for riding with earbuds on. I can understand if you are just commuting, or slabbing for hundreds of miles, but when I ride twisties, do you really NEED more sensory overload? Like as if dodging traffic and obstacles is not enough, you need a soundtrack? It's dangerous imo, obviously it might not kill an expert rider or pro racer to listen to music while riding street, but for everyone else, you wouldn't do it on the track so why would you do it in the hills? My buddy kept on changing songs at stop signs and stop lights while we were riding, and he wasn't paying attention, that shit really pissed me off. I should forward him Warr's rear end video. I'm just trying to learn engine management, without looking at the tach, I have a tough time internalizing the RPM sounds as it is, without freakin rihanna in the background

If there are young kids in a car next to me I try and scare them until they start crying and then rev my bike real loud so they cry louder. :rofl
Then when the mom starts staring at me I pull my helmet shield up and show her my pirate eye patch and scar running down by cheek. Scares the hell out of them and then they really make sure we are not together at the next light. :ride This only works on my Black DRZ 400 SM with the loud pipes.

Good gods man! Lights aren't that long! I check my mirrors so I don't get asspacked. I look at the nearby cars for signs of oncoming stupidity. I check the cross traffic lights to see if they're changing. I check for more signs of stupidity, or pretty girls.

This.

Watch out for asspackers, check for potential stupid drivers, check out hot girls, in that order.

I split to front if I can to avoid being a$$-packed, assess the drivers next to me as to whether or not I think they'll cause me grief when then light goes green, assess the cross traffic to see if it'll be safe to accelerate quickly when it does go green, and assess the lights and walk signals to figure out when they'll change. If I can't split or if i'm first, then I watch my mirrors and plan escape route in case some one neglects to adequately stop behind me. I'm paranoid around lighted intersections, and especially when it's hot in the summer, I just can't wait to be moving again, so I play this game to ensure I move again as quickly as possible without unintentionally getting intimate with a moving cager.

I drum the tank, no rhythm what-so-ever. Sometime I do shoulder dance if my list cycles back to 'speed demon'. :D

ahem.. and checking the mirrors of course.

Sometimes I drum. ('Got some pretty good rythms.) Sometimes I just sit with my arm hanging down at my side. Sometimes I bounce in the seat, or stand up, or rock the bike from side to side. Mostly I just sit there. However, at no time do I give up my vigilance. I'm always checking my 6, my sides, and scanning ahead and each way on the cross street. That way nothing surprises me and I'm ready to go when the light changes.

I usually play my own game of "how long can I balance my bike lifting my feet off the ground" (I laugh at myself sometimes).

Dude. I do that too! :banana

I'm sure people around me think I'm crazy and can't balance my bike or something :x

If I'm not needing to split to the front b/c there's no cars in front or there isn't enough room to split, I'll practice a slow race with myself. If I can hold out from putting my foot down and cross the intersection, I win.. not sure what. I just win :party

If I know the light's going to be long, and it's been a long day (my battery life is dropping :( - need to get a second one), I usually check the mirrors to make sure my GoPro is still on via flashing red light.

Sometimes people crossing the crosswalk will wave like they're on tv. :wave
And oftentimes, drivers will inch forward, roll down their window, and ask if it's a camera. :facepalm

If warr77 hasn't convinced you guys to get one.. maybe some additional candid footage can help :dunno

[not embedding it on purpose as I'm not trying to digress from this thread all that much]

How about the dance off , Pig? Come on...it'll be great to see full suited up riders in a dance off at a busy intersection. hahahhaha

In.

Also willing to try Chinese fire drills between bikes :thumbup

Mildly ghey (okay, mostly ghey) but a quick round of patty-cake could be entertaining - especially if you can convince cage occupants to play.

Pick an intersection and time/day. Weekends work best for me (and probably many others) ;)

I'm guessing that the thread was mostly made with humor in mind but...

I'm too busy to drum on the tank. I'm in 1st gear, clutch squeezed, throttle ready, right foot flashing the brake light (until the dude behind me is stopped), eyes moving between mirrors and cross traffic in case I need to make an escape.

I'm surprised how many people do some of the following at a traffic light:
Sit in neutral.
With the sidestand down.
In the middle of the lane directly behind a car.
