I would guess most people it's age 4.
I know I can remember back to 3 or 4, I recall a story to my mom/dad and they confirm it's true <- that's how it's done.

I'm curious, and my head won't rest until I know more.

How far back can you remember? Anyone remember back to age 1?

Back to the womb?

Probably no one remembers anything at ages 1 or 2, but at 3 is possible, but it would probably have to be a major moment for you to remember........My first memory is at the age of either really late 2 or early three, I was lost in a mall and I remember crying for my mom and some people taking me to what I would assume is the information desk.......

Infant, playing with my mobile (sp) in my crib. I still remember the animals and how they felt. I think that being adopted has a lot to do with it at 3-months old.

Weird :wtf

Oh wait, I remember being a 12 y/o alter boy and being led into a back room and...........

I remember my 3rd birthday party when my two cousins came over and we kicked a soccer ball around. Weird how some memories stick through the years.

Steven Wright said he kept a diary from when he was born...."Day 1, still tired from the big move. Day 2, everybody talks to me like I'm an idiot." :laughing

I have solid memories of when I was 2. I don't have a continuous time line memory, but I can clearly remember "scenes" from the age of 2.

When I was 18 I had vivid memories of early childhood. Now I have very few. Fuck I have very few of yesterday.

I remember being 4 or 5 and watching my Dad swim in the Cedar or Iowa River at Iowa City in flood condition.... Same place that is now way under water. I think that is the earliest.

I have a lot about eating good food and groping/fondling my mother's students (the gals were in their teens/early 20's) in Japan as I was growing up. Most definitely by 5, maybe as early as 3 or 4. I most definitely *do* remember taking baths with my SUPER HAWT baby sitter. I love being Japanese. :teeth :love :drool :laughing :laughing

Pre-verbal years are pretty much impossible to recall, since we don't have language we can't assign meaning to experiences; however, those experiences do effect us and our responses. We have pre-verbal memory that is more like a re-experiencing of an event emotionally and kinesthetically. The physical and emotional reactions to situations can result in us assigning meaning to similar events and experiences once we become verbal.

That's the theory at least.

Oh, I'm definately not talking about a timeline here. Just "scenes" exactly like you said.

It's really cool to hear how early some folks can go back, and have their family confirm to them it was real.

When I was 8 years old, and got sick, I remember having these nightmares where I saw red wires and heard muffled loud arguing. Almost like a CSI cutscene, with the red wires clumps looking like blood vessels. Mom confirmed that Dad used to argue with his family as they played cards while I was in the womb. And the "muffled" voices sounded exactly as they would through water. Creepy. Although I chalk it up to a fluke, can't have myself buy into the idea that in 2nd grade, I had a memory of "in the womb".

Thanks for all your stories. I'll make notes in my book that I can still have nookie in front of the kid until he's 2! ;)

Pre-verbal years are pretty much impossible to recall,

Check out the big brain on Blind :D

Well I do after 40 years I still have strong memories "Pre-verbal years"

But like I said I might be one of the exceptions to the rule.

(lets not get into how much we don't understand about the human brain, I'm at capacity) :twofinger

Hey, I remember being in Germany(5 years old or so), and when my parents had friends over, I'd often play around and go under women's dresses. Pretend like they were a fort and hide. Too bad I didn't know any better...I would have looked up.

If you were in Germany, it was probably best that you didn't look up or else you might have memories of seeing a sasquatch.

being kicked in the head by a horse......actually.....seeing horse butt, then really excited parents hovering over me......i was 3.....ugh

around same time frame (i think) i remember stuffing a little garter snake in my mouth and showing mom......she got excited about that too......

my poor mom...had 5 boys.......wonder how she survived....

3 or 4. My fiancee has crazy memory. She remembers stuff from when she was 2. :wtf

Steve

My earliest memory is from when I was about 17-18 months old (as confirmed by my mom). I was with my Dad, on a horse, being held in front of him. I can remember looking down to the right of the horse's withers, seeing clouds of dust coming up from the dirt road, the horse's black mane blowing back and then dropping down again in rhythm with it's canter. The sky was that pale summertime blue it gets when it's hot out.
I remember a feeling of wanting "more", but not having words to express it... the feeling was one of wanting to go FASTER (go figure! :laughing )- a LOT faster, and I remember sort of kicking my legs for "more"... extremely vivid, and that started a love of horses that's kept me financially strapped for years!! :laughing :thumbup
