How long did it take you all to buy your first bike?

It's good to see that I'm in great company. Thanks all.

Now how about selling this newb a bike at a good rate?

Joke. I swear. Unless it's a hayabusa. I can fucking tear it up on that one. :)

buy my 400f... it's coo.

about 8 months after i'd passed the MSF. wasn't even looking for a motorcycle yet. was shopping craigslist for a mountain bike and found a motorcycle for almost the same price.

owned it for a year and a half and pretty much doubled purchase price with all the repairs.

:laughing

I'll echo someone's earlier suggestion that you should line up a riding friend to help get your bike home. If no one leaps to mind, and you've already purchased the bike- there are tons of BARFers who live/work in the city who would be glad to help out.

Unless the bike is nearby, its going to scare the sh*t out of you that first ride home. I know I was freaked riding it around the neighborhood after getting my bike- MSF doesn't prepare you for dealing wth traffic. It was a great relief to know I wouldn't have to cross the bridge to get the bike to my garage...

I had my license before I bought my first bike (GS500). My mom outright refused to help me get the bike. I had cash in hand, I just needed her to co-sign on a private loan from a friend (just in case you know) and she refused. I had to wait an additional couple days for my dad to come down from Fresno to sign it and help me out. The following weekend I drove to Nevada to pick my GS up. Best trip ever.

My mom still doesnt approve, but shes gotten used to it.

It took me about a week to get my first bike, but then again, ninja 250s are fairly plentiful.

Also, the seller was willing to deliver it after I decided to buy the bike. So that might be something you could consider negotiating about the deal.

About 5 hours.
I told my friend I wanted to learn how to ride and he told me about a bike on Craigslist for $200.
I called the guy and bought it that night (of course I couldn't ride it home).

I bought my first on a whim. I had my civic for sale, had a sign in the back window and I just happened to pass a guy in the parking lot who flagged me down. He asked about my car, and I said I was selling it and considering buying a bike. He just happened to be selling a bike to get a car, so I ended up with an FZR600 and $1000 cash the next day.

:(
are you ok?

16 my mom wouldnt let me get a Ninja 250 or a YSR50 so I was stuck with a Honda Elite 80 scooter. Now that I'm older and more mature I'd love to have one again it got 76 mpg.

From the "Hmm, I think I'd like to ride" phase to the "I own a bike" phase: about 3 months. Squeezed in the MSF in the middle.

I went back and forth for a week between the 72 CB250 and the 72 CB350 for about a week before I chose the CB350 for $350 cash (newspaper delivery money) just after I turned 15 in 1976.

I bought a bike FIRST, before learning how to ride it
I was that commited

tried to ride it one day before learning anything and totally ate it in my parking lot....not owning any gear at the time :D

then I took the MSF a couple weeks later and learned on their bikes. I rode my first bike around for a few days before it blew up on me (LITERALLY) and set me on fire

I was kinda turned off to riding until about 5 months ago when I decided to try it againa nd got my lovely 250

I had pretty much forgotten everything by that point though nad had my knight in shining armor, Slowpoke ride it up from Santa Cruz for me.

I had never met the guy and he went out of his way like that for me. BARF is really pretty awesome.

Anyway, now I ride everyday

i was lucky. my younger sister was interested in riding, so she bought a beater. i rode it for about a year (w/ permit) but was never really serious. then finally an insurance hike on my car made me think twice about driving. so i went on craigslist and bought the first bike i thought was reasonably price and in stock form. took less than a week.

spidey

The same day I started looking for the first time. I'm an impulse buyer.:p
