It's a cool app, but it does give me some roundabout ways to get places. Oh well, better safe than sorry. Google Maps is nice, but Waze may make the first page on my 3GS :teeth

Got a response back from WAZE's team about my suggestions. Thought I'd post 'em n share :)

Hi,

Thank you very much for your email, compliments and suggestions!

First and foremost - we will work on a 'moto' mode which will allow you to contribute to waze without damaging the traffic data. Obviously as a bike rider, we can still use your data to build average speeds and road directions - and this should of course give you the points for road munching. As you mentioned - the real time speed is a bit problematic when you're on a bike as you don't necessarily stand in traffic as the rest of the drivers.

And then two more features you suggested:
Having a new icon for moto-wazers: I like it and totally agree. Once you switch to 'moto-mode' you waze avatars should be different (instead of choosing a blue / yellow car, you will choose a Ninja or a Suzuki DRZ). Perhaps we can make a little wazer with a helmet on his head so other wazers will see your moto-avatar as well. The more I think about this one, the more I like it. I'll forward it on.
Alerting you of a near by motorist; this issue is a bit more problematic. While we do show other wazers on your map right now, we do so with some privacy protection - these locations are approximate and area updated once every once in a while (btwn 30 to 120 seconds). The reason is to protect the wazer's privacy (who can choose to be invisible, if he'd like) and also to limit the data trasfer rate (as he doesn't need to send his location all the time).
If we go for a feature as you requested - which I agree could be a great safety promoter - it will require some changes to our privacy settings. It can be done, but has to be considered and checked against our policies.

Like I said - I'll forward all these ideas, and will keep you updated on the progress. Be sure to check our twitter account for updates on new releases, new promotions - and new features!

Thanks
Dror

The moto stuff has been discussed a few times on the Waze forums.

Yeah, although there wasn't that much on there about a month or two ago, so I'm glad the moto-riding chatter has picked up. This is good! :thumbup

I think the more people that send these suggestions (or at least voice their opinion about them on the forums) the more they'll consider putting them in to the app. Can't wait 'til we have our own :ride icon! Or mebbe we can request a :twofinger icon for the barfers, hahaha!

How fun is the new update? :teeth I been collecting cherries like a jock at HS prom... oh that was terrible :-x

OK but really, hella fun, and I LOVE that we can see who the nearby WAZErs are... on the way to T-Hill it was cool to see Yakoo and Kaihonu on the map ahead/behind us. We were purposely setting funny "hazards" for us trackday-lovers to run across ;) hehe

WAZEin just got more fun, good times!

Definitely boosting my points. I am up to #800 or so (48k points) :shocker

To all the peeps fretting about using this on a moto, just forget any of the reporting or visual info... its great for us simply because of the audible routing. I can choose a destination, put my headphones on, tuck the phone in my pocket and ride on. It tracks my general position and warns me about my upcoming turns. To get this feature on the iPhone without Waze, you have to pay for expensive and crappy other GPS apps.
Waze rules for moto GPS nav!!!

I am still trying to figure out why Waze crashes constantly for me. I can't use it for navigation on the bike because it will crash after about 20 minutes or so. On my last 5 or so hour drive it crashed on me 7-9 times. So I can not rely on it for navigation. But it does run stable without navigating.

No one else seems to be having that problem, which is annoying.

Try altering some settings, maybe your config is related to the crash.

I have played with every setting on there (part of the fun, figuring out all the tricks). Nothing keeps it from crashing except not using it for navigation.

have you contacted the developers about this yet?

Thanks for sharing this! I'll have to give it a shot on my way home :)
