just wondering how many trackdays before the fork oil needs to be changed?

My maintenance log reads "lots" but then, maybe that's why I suck at the track. On my dirtbike, I did notice an improvement after the oil change.

I also heard Moss recommend very frequent changes saying something like "it's so easy" (sure, if you're a suspension guy!)

btw, don't forget to get the fancy front stand that hooks under the steering head instead of the one that hooks to the forks. I know, it's obvious to everybody now, but I bet somebody was gonna get halfway into it before they got stuck.

i think dave says 6 track days or 3 months, which ever comes first.

once per year (and it comes out DARK). Actually, the Maxima stuff I've been using lately doesn't come out very badly at all even after a whole season. I do however check the oil level twice per year (beginning and mid to 3/4's).

Probably too long of a gap though...

twice a season for me...

For me it is every 1000 miles or 12 months depending on what comes first. :rofl Oh crap that isn't really funny, come to think of it; it is really, really sad. :(

I would go with the Dave Moss’s recommendation. :thumbup

Dave Moss told me every 3 trackdays when I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago at the track. That's on stock suspension (if that matters).

I was dumbfounded. I was thinking once, maybe twice a year.

So the shops seem to charge $100 to do the job if you bring them the forks. I dunno seems rather easy for $100, can someone detail what is involved? From my ignorant archives I recall you open the top and just dump the oil out and then use a meter to fill it back up? Do they give you new seals and such as well for that $100?

do you need to change seals when you do an oil change? Thinking of doing it myself. Do I to get a shop manual first? and when you say meter what kind of meter?

no, it's more complicated than that. you need to get a spring compressor to take apart the forks and remove springs, drain all oil, inspect things, fill back with oil to a specific height with springs out, re assemble.

100 dollars is very reasonable, speaking as someone who does it themselves.

check the sticky about tearing apart forks.

Thanks, this does sound much more worth the $100.
