How often do examine your ethics and general

Do the right thing all the time. It's usually fairly obvious what the right thing to do is in almost any situation, and when it's not, do what you think the right thing is.

Not that hard to live life in the right way, be honest, respect people, treat others the way you want to be treated, work hard, etc.

But what criteria or external reference points do you use to determine what is right?

:thumbup On one hand, it is happening All the time.

On the other hand, it's easy peasy, just the way of living. :thumbup
WORD!

I used to have the "me first/finders keepers/you should have known better" attitude. Turns out it's MUCH easier to be patient and helpful.

Best part is seeing it reflected in my kids and grandkids; they are reflexively nice, reflexively helpful, and are happier and more relaxed than I was at their ages.

A week ago a guy at work went to a metal concert and lost his wallet. Dude was so pissed but a few days later he gets a call from his bank. Someone found the wallet and turned it into the bank.
Morales and ethics still exist in the wild world.

Agreed, but most people (being dipshits) believe in "finders keepers" or "he deserved to lose it"

A co-worker asked me, when I told him I wasn't religious, "How do you know what is right without God guiding you?"

I don't remember my exact answer, it might have involved talking to my dick, but I'm not sure. To me, for someone to put all their ethics /morals in Their God, was just unbelievable, and I wonder if they didn't have Their God,, would they start running around waving their dicks, snorting everything in sight and raping and pillaging?

Totally agreed. They are only insulting themselves when they ask a question like that; to them thier morality could only be based on the fear of celestial punishment. Because without their god, they'd be molesting children, cutting people's heads off, mutilating genitalia, murdering health care providers...

This is the fundamental cultural poison behind all monotheism though. That belief in divine intelligence is harmful to society, because it absolves man of responsibility for his own morality. That is the root of the evil in religion. You do not question moral standards, because they are created for you.

Humans, at least less intelligent and/or lazy ones, seem to need somebody else to define and do their thinking for them. We also see this kind of non-thinking laziness with ditto-heads.

I've concluded after reading this thread and thinkinhg about it that maybe not often enough with regard to the title question.

Well, Gee....not since that time I sold Dope, disguised as a nun...

Well she examines mine every night if you must ask.

Indeed, this is WHY religion is so dangerous.

Agreed. I'm always trying to live up to my highest sense of truth.

Every day is a quest to find it, right?

Not necessarily, though in some cases yes. Some principles are set. Expressing them daily isnt always easy.

All that if they Did or Didn't have their god?
