How tireing would a 650 dualsport be to ride?

are you kidding me? 650 dualsport is the fucking shit..ktm 690, end of story.

Like Scorpio said, if you want comfort, drive a car.

Supermoto is the ultimate city hooligan machine, so light and comfy in city streets. It's not a dirt bike, but it will take bumps and crappy roads a LOT better than a sportbike. My bike really doesn't give a shit about pot holes even in SF.

And if you ask me, freeway riding is not really that comfy on any machine. Just drive a car or take the bus when you wanna be comfy. I came from riding a 998 over 100 miles a day on weekends, and the 690 feels like a fucking lazy boy. I don't think I'd like a goldwing, not because it's not a cool bike, just too damn comfortable! It's a motorcycle, come on, show some spirit.

well no wonder your ducati is uncomfortable.. look at the gas tank on that thing. you would have to have your stomach removed to be able to conform around that thing..

but other than that, thanks for the input :laughing

ktm 690s are a little out of my price range..

KTM 690s are out of your skill range too. . . . that's the fastest bike I've ever been on, from 0-40 and back to 0. Wouldn't take much to loop it or use too much front brake in a place where you shouldn't be using any.

Seriously, get a decent condition, cheap, simple dual sport and ride it for a while, then decide if you want something different, or better, or if you actually just want to ride the thing into the ground. I've done 400 mile days on a DRZ-400, and it wasn't bad. Anything with more power than that will be fine on freeways, etc.

Guys I think I found the one..

1994 KLR 650 with 23k miles for $1800

The guy is including two sets of tires, some 80/20s and 10/90s both in good condition, and also two different gearboxes, a lower one for off-road, and higher for street.

The bike has replaced doohickey, skid pan, upper engine graud with highway pegs, headlight grill (+5hp), LED tail light, dirt riding pegs, front fender mod, new brakes front & rear, comes with tire irons and tool tube, on-board air pump, and some other stuff. all of the plastics are Rhino lined.

I think this thing would be perfect, and it's cheap as hell. the guy is a mechanic, so hes kept it running smooth.

kick ass, have fun.

Love my DR650, commute with it over the Bay Bridge (yes, crosswind is a factor with dualsports, be aware) during the week, then throw my spare wheels with knobbies on it and go head for the dirt on weekends. I've done long freeway jaunts, which are helped bu the addition of an aftermarket saddle and a small windscreen, and while it isn't comfy, it isn't unreasonably buzzy or painful, either.

SV650s are great too, though.

I wanna try out a dualsprot. They've been catching my eye everywhere lately.

You say "two different gearboxes?" You mean sprockets?

Mine's a '91 with 44k miles, still running strong, burns no oil unless I sit on the freeway at speed, then it'll go through a pint in 500 miles. Check the oil level sight glass every few days until you get a feel for the oil consumption. And when/if you get on the freeway for 50-100 miles, be sure to check the oil level then.

Two different gearboxes :wow

"What did you say, we're riding dirt today? Ok give me a minute. I'm going to swap gearboxes".

Might be faster than swapping wheels.

That's a good deal. Just the list of extras and that shiny red bike lift is enough to strongly suggest to me it's been well taken care of too. If I was you I'd snap that up right away :)

provided it's actually in as good shape as the owner says it is and if it looks as good in real life as the picture does, i'd say you're getting a pretty damn good deal there.

i'm currently converting my SV650s to a naked. but if could afford/justify a second bike, a DRZ 650 would probably be my choice (sorry, they seem equally as capable as a KLR, but they just look cooler, and sometimes you gotta be a little bit shallow like that). honestly, i could probably afford to get the DRZ, decide which one i like better then sell off the other one. but even if i had a dual sport, i doubt i'd really be able to take advantage of its charms enough to make it worthwhile. i'll stick to the "dirtbike for the street" that is the SV650.

Hell yea.

Can you ask him where he got the +5hp headlight grill? I need one of those for my bicycle.

Bepor I like Dualsports but now I am scared that if I ride one I'll have a big man pelt over my :boobies and that just wouldn't be right.

it's worth the fun and experience to ride a dual sport that i didn't mind all the chest hairs when i was a woman....:ride

1) The gf and I went about 500 miles in one day last weekend on the KLR we're borrowing right now.

2) If you don't buy that one above, you'd damn well better tell me where it is so I can.

WTF? He's charging that much for an older bike with more miles than mine? I'm gonna raise my asking price. :laughing

That's a good deal, snap it up. The mods are pretty standard, that's what most savvy KLR owners do. It looks well taken care of in those pictures.

I know the guy selling the Rhino KLR. Kurt's an eccentric old guy but really keeps his stuff in good condition. I've ridden with him several times, he doesn't beat on the bike at all. It's a good buy. I think the only reason it hasn't sold is because people are put off by the rhino liner. It's up here in Sacramento.

Michael (the original poster), hurry up and buy it before I do. That would make a good spare bike, and it's a very good price.

I had an old KLR650 that was a blast to be on. Fire roads, dirt farm roads, twisty roads ( with a set of street tires you are grinning ear to ear), and even highways are doable.

No issues with fatigue unless you are on small trails and keep falling over- they are heavy to keep picking up.

Mine drank oil, always had a quart with me.

For me, the big difference with a 600cc sport bike (besides the no dirt riding thing), was that I never was satisfied with just taking them just around the bay area- I would end up riding all over the state. I never got that feeling with the KLR.

I had a long talk with Kurt last night, he seems like a really cool guy. He was giving me tons of newbie rider advice, and wasn't trying to pull any fast talking salesman type stuff, he's really down to earth. Kurt said there was someone ahead of me in line coming to look at the bike today already, but if he doesn't go through, I am. I really want this bike.
