One of my friends will be in city from NY on 22nd. I need to show her around ( Damn !!! No Barf bash for me :( ) . I'll have to pick her up from SF. Any suggestion on how to carry an extra helmet while riding ? It won't fit into my back pack. Is it safe to attach it to hook below the passenger seat in SV650s while riding ?

I am kinda new to bay area, I'll appreciate your inputs about nice scenic places to see around SF on a day ride.

no.. ive done that before and i was splitting lanes and the helmet made contact with a car door. id suggest some kind of a net to secure it on top of your passenger seat :thumbup

use a cargo bungee straps and strap it on the rear seat or strap it on to a backpack

+1

Very important to secure it two different ways. I lost a helmet using just the net.

i throw it on the hook under the seat. just realize you have an extra 6" sticking out of the side.

This is what I have done. It works fine. Just don't go splitting tight gaps and you'll be fine

I used to hook mine up to the passenger peg brackets

not to discredit anyone... but attaching it to the 'helmet lock' or the passenger peg on some motorcycles may allow the helmet to contact the tire, or even the rear sprocket.

My friend wore through the visor with her tire without realizing and I recently pretty much destroyed my helmet (which already needed replacing, thank goodness) doing this.

I typically use the helmet bags that came with my helmets when bringing a helmet to someone. Otherwise I'd go with the cargo bungee to the rear seat option.

I meant that I would sit the helmet on the rear seat and attach the ends of the bungee net to the passenger peg brackets

only time I lock a helmet to the passenger peg bracket is when I go to the mall and I don't want to be carrying it around, and when I do that I use my cheap $100 scorpion exo 400 helmet, I carry the shoei with me everywhere I go.

i use the helmet hook alot..

but a few time i've had to tightent he strap all the way then loop a bungey around that and hook the bungy to my frame so the helm is strapped to my tank

works good. but on some tanks you need to watch the helm (or i like to lean on top of it)

Maybe I can help you on the sf scenic front.

Golden Gate bridge during the day is a popular destination. Take a ride from Marina Blvd. straight through Crissy Field all the way down to Fort Point. I run down there all the time, Very pretty, especially when its foggy.
Hop on GG Bridge and ride her to Rodeo beach in Marin.

Head back to the city and grab some grub at Charanga in the mission if you're into cuban taste or Suppenkuche in hayes valley for some german weiners.

North Beach, for a cup of cino or Mara's for some ridiculously fattening dessert and a walk through washington park.

Hope you try atleast on of these :)

Holy crap your passenger helmet hit a car? How close do you split cars? Or was it just 1 close call with 1 car?

This is what I do, never had a problem.

I do have a helmet bag with me...but I also want to carry my back pack. So can't carry both on my back
