How to get rid of timeshare?

We just went through this. And we still have one at Squaw Valley at Olympic Village Inn.

It was interesting how the Real Estate Industry has no interest in selling your timeshare. There are some firms that will take you money up front and see what they can do, no refunds...

It kinda sucks, but I think the 26 weeks I spent in Princeville Kauai was worth it. I still like OVI. Buying a cabin or something in Tahoe is a pain in the ass. And expensive.

Tis all an interesting business model.

I hear ads for company called Time Share Exit Team. I think you have to write them a check to get out of it, but supposedly either they get you out or you don't owe them anything. My understanding is it's the maintenance fees that get you, and if you have to pay someone to get out of it, I'm sure there is a break even btwn the two (cost to get and cost of fees per year)

This is correct. The maintenance fees at this particular place have grown to include significant erosion repair. Yea, right.

The "get me out" companies are, as best I can tell, more of the same BS. Pay them money to "resolve" the problem by paying off the fees that are due. Whereas, you could just pay off the fees directly and skip the fee to pay off the fee...:laughing

Remind me to never buy a timeshare.
What's the advantage again over a hotel so you can go on vacation when and where you please?

Dave Ramsey endorses Time Share Exit Team and whether you agree with his money advice or not he usually endorses trust worthy companies. I'd give them a call.

Ours in Kauai had a fantastic kitchen, so there is tremendous $$$ savings there compared to eating out.
Plus you get to know the area and the locals after a while so so aren't such a tourist.
Plus if you get a good one, it is better than a hotel, unless you spring for the presidential suite.

So, what exactly do the timeshare exit companies do for you?

I'm guessing they are a part of the time share sales companies. They know there is a market of people who want out of their time shares so they likely have system in place to buy it back for pennies on the dollar and resell it through the sales arm.

Its like that land scam that Erik Estrada was a pitch man for. They made most of their money selling the plot of useless land over and over again as buyers realized the mistake and wanted to unload. Time shares seem ripe for the same business model.

I was thinking along the same lines. It would make sense to squeeze a little more out of them, then re-use it on another sucker.

As P. T. Barnum was attributed as saying, There is a sucker born every minute.
