HOT!

The average house isn't that hard to get into. Sliding doors and windows tend to be pretty easy to defeat too. Try yours one day & see where the weak spots are.

A doorlock is no stronger than the window. Almost any house that doesn't have Ghetto Bars can be entered with nothing more than a simple brick...

In fact, I've used this: one time I got locked out of my own place, and I did the math: it was cheaper for me to break a small window to open a large window, then fix the broken window, than to call a locksmith.

^stay? is she security trained?

..visit ..
we are still working on it, i'll tell yah that thick sleeve you have to wear,
really doesn't work that great.

I've got very dark tint on my garage windows, can probably glue or bolt a piece of scrap 2x6 to the lifter and block anyone being able to reach it with a wire. Thanks, one more thing for my to-do list...

i have exactly this type of garage.

seems like with a little fabrication (wood, metal panel about .5ft x .5ft), the hinge could be easily blocked from this type of coat hanger bidness.

thanks for posting.

nice trick as long as there is a window to see what you are doing. On the fire dept I learned a way to get into your garage in two seconds though, window or no :teeth

It's only there to keep honest people honest. Those who want to penetrate, will. *giggles*

:laughing ahhaa i have the single door garage...the old, loud SOB door....doesnt apply to me but awesome to know :thumbup

Why not put a grenade where the latch is, so they yank the pin out of the grenade instead?

am I the only one that has their garage door wired to the house alarm?

As a locksmith I can tell you that not only does that tool work well on garage doors without windows, but yes, there are many ways in to your house.

Google the words "bump key" and learn all about it. Locks keep honest people out. Thieves smile at locks, smart ones smile at alarm systems and dogs too. It's a fact of life, get used to it.

Security is very simple really. If your home is the easiest to break in to with the most goodies inside, tag your it. If your home, or business, is more difficult to enter and has little return for the trouble, it will very likely get passed over. It really is that simple.

Insurance is how you protect your things. Locks are to keep your friends from walking in while you do things you don't want them to make fun of.....

Aren't all the big lock companies making "bump" resistant locks now? Actually, when I first heard of that, I wondered if just taking your lock apart and packing all the pins and springs with heavy grease would do the same thing.
"Bumping" appears to depend on inertia and very free movement of the pins. Heavy grease ought to reduce the free movement enough to block the inertia of the pins without preventing a properly cut key from working. What's your opinion on this as a locksmith?

+1 on your comment about making your house harder to break into than the neighbors. If it takes them longer to break into your house, they'll pick the one next door.

What Yelow748 suggested: GERMAN SHEPHARDS. I have 2, they are K9 and personal protection trained for that matter. I dare you to break in.... :thumbup

Trouble with dogs is they're high maintenance. Plus, what if the thief has a gun?
Plus, keeping a dog locked up in a garage all the time is abuse.

How about a sound activated audio recording of a big dog barking? That would filter out all the unarmed thieves.
