I have several pairs of shoes that smell like a windowless, boys locker room. I purposely have multiple pairs so that I can rotate them and so that 1 pair does not get too sweaty/stinky. I bathe 1 or 2 times per day. I wear clean socks and will even switch socks after a hike/bike ride.

I do not have athletes foot.

I was taking a nap this afternoon and I kept smelling this awful smell and I opened my eyes to see a pair of my shoes about 4 feet away. I got up and threw them in the back yard to aire-out.

I hate to throw away a perfectly good pair of shoes just due to the smell.

Any advice?

:wtf

What are you doing in a windowless boys locker room?

Simple answer might be to just buy new shoes or maybe more shoes.
I've had that problem when traveling and wearing the same shoes for days. Temporary solution was to carry sock to change throughout day.

Dryer sheets in each shoe when you're not wearing them.

You're welcome.

May not help with the currently stinky shoes but try smartwool socks.

For the current shoes try letting them sit with baking soda or activated carbon. If the insoles are removable, toss them and get new ones.

Get foot powder with an antifungal and squirt a tiny bit in each shoe each day. there are also "anti stink" sprays that work, you can spray into each shoe. Do you wear synthetic fabric socks or cotton? Switch to wool.

+1 to natural fiber socks, dryer sheets, new insoles, washing machine, and the freezer

pretty much, kill as much bateria u can and then keep the ones that remain as inactive as possible so it doesnt stink.

What ever you do, do not wash them. Shoes ....at least sneakers come with chemicals in them to reduce bacteria or fungus or stink, not really sure. Anyways washing will remove those chemicals and your feet will rot-for true's. Don't ask me how I know. :mad

I got ten bucks says the guys with stink and foot problems wear synthetic socks. Make that twenty.

Wool. Year round. Changed my life.

Okay, it didn't really change my life, but it sure has made my feet happier.

I used to have the same problem. It's not a fungal issue. It's bacteria. That's why putting your shoes in the freezer works for a day or so. The bacteria just go dormant. But, they come back when they get warm again. You need something that will kill them.

Another BARFer recommended this stuff to me a while ago:

http://www.amazon.com/On-Your-Toes-...8&qid=1368421984&sr=8-1&keywords=On+your+toes

The stuff is like magic. I've been dealing with stinky shoes for most of my life. This powder was the only thing that has ever stopped it.

They don't sell it in the local stores. Amazon is the only place I've found it.
