Howdy all!

I'm a 28 year old animator and cartoonist, new to the Bay Area as of March. Nice place you've got out here! Figured now's a good time to introduce myself and start getting involved in the local motorcycle community.

First bike time! After a few months of kicking around the idea, taking the MSF class, and getting my Class-M license, I'll be picking up my 2008 SV650 ABS from SF Moto this afternoon! Exciting times!

I'll see you around!

Cheers,

-YellerDog

Great bike! I have a non-ABS version. Still don't understand how people in the city can park their bikes outside. But I guess most don't have a choice.

Probably going to end up doing just that most of the time, even though my apartment has a (crowded) shared garage. Living in terror, hahaha.

The best lock for your bike is full-coverage insurance. If you don't have it now, get it.

Welcome to BARF...and good luck.

Got it already. :cool

It's a hell of a pretty bike, I'll be taking good care of it! Here's SV having a sniff of some nice flowers.

PLEASE park that bike overnight in a garage. It's extremely rare. The SV650 ABS was only brought into the USA for 2 years (2007-2008).

If you keep it stock and well maintained, it'll hold its' value better than other SV650 in similar condition simply due to the rarity.

I'm just pissed I didn't see it to buy for my wife.
And welcome to the Bay Area! :twofinger

Hahaha, rarity be damned! I bought this thing to ride it, not to keep it in mint condition! It's going to get lived-on, this has not a thing to do with not maintaining it and keeping it clean, though. Any time I'm expecting to be out of town it's going in the garage, but for day to day it's going to be on the street.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to go enjoy some grilled panda with golden eagle foie gras.

Thank ya for the welcome! :D

Welcome. I recommend getting a good weather-proof cover for it so the dampness of the city doesn't rust away at the parts. I picked up my last bike from the city, and it was scary how much rust had built up on it. Plus, with the seat covered, it won't be wet for you in the morning when you are ready to leave :thumbup

i give you 2months before you start modding your sv....

Oh man, stock is so pretty though!

I think I am going to have to set aside a day for some track-time before too long, I keep reading complaints about the shocks on the '08, but commute-riding doesn't seem to reflect this.

Took her out on the highway for the first time yesterday! Rode down to Hillsdale in the morning, rode back to SF at night... night riding is SCARY, man! First time ever doing so with a motorcycle, so I wasn't trying to impress anybody. Haha my left foot was shaking like crazy the whole time, screaming inside my helmet seemed to help. :laughing

Made it out totally ok, and I'm glad I got that first-time out of the way!

Welcome! If you ever want to sell it let me know. I have the non-ABS version. Love it. But be careful.... I don't think that it is a beginner's bike despite what everyone is saying.
