How's life with your loud exhaust??

The bike that I got came with a fancy but loud exhaust system, fancy fueling chip, and all the stock pieces.

I'm the kind that prefers quiet things and to not draw attention for myself.
The exhuast is LOUD. It's not sexy Ducati+Termi loud. It's like real track race car loud. Sort of a cross between awful Harly open pipes and an dirt track Chevy with no dB limit loud. Not obnoxious screaming D&D noise. A relatively deep but painful noise.

Every time I start it I think I annoy people on the street. Old people give me a dirty looks. Last night at 7pm an old guy started yelling at me cuz it scared the shit out of him. I had earplugs and my helmet on so I didn't hear anything he said but he was pissed for sure.:(
I wait for dogs and little kids to leave before I start it.
I also leave the house before 5am. When I first got it Id push it two blocks away but honestly, thats hard and hot and annoying. When I come back I try to get up to speed and coast with the clutch disengaged for that block. I still set off car alarms. I live in a complex with other familys.
One neighbor has a loud Harly but he just starts it on Saturdays to wash it. Thats about it.
I tried swapping to stock and every combination not including the actual exhaust system but the bike just runs like shit. Didn't pull as hard, sucked below 4k rpm, ran too lean, etc.

So all you other assholes with loud bikes; did your neighbors get used to it? Do just not care? Bike get keyed and knocked over? Everything turn out better than expected after a few months? I havn't even dared to get breakfast at Alices yet.

I even push my quiet bikes down the block when I leave at 5am. Loud pipes blow

who makes the exhaust?

you might be able to install a quiet core into it

HMF. Guys who put in the $40 quiet core said it brings the bike close back to shitty fueling again. HMF says it doest no such thing. All the performance without the noise:|

The best part is when you start ice cold it gives one super loud backfire.

My Ducati is way, way, too loud. I only use it as a toy so it's not an issue in terms of waking the neighbors but I do wish it was quieter.

Had the db-killers in my termis when I lived in an apartment complex where I parked under people's bedrooms. Now that my bike's in a garage, they're off :dunno

What bike is it?

Hard to believe that any modernish bike can't be tuned to run correctly with a stock pipe with all the options out there for carb and FI bikes.

Ive heard plenty of sexy sounding loud Ducati's......we're not in the same catagory at all.:laughing
I'm sure it could be tuned by hand with more chips and quiet exhuast. Don't wanna spend a grand on that though.

ive got a remus exhaust with the insert if your intrested. its acutally pritty quite and it ran fine with the stock programming

Have you run your bike with the filter, Eric Buell chip and full exhuast for it? It's like a totally different bike compared to the stock set up. I was amazed.

custom tuned for timing and the pc5 took care of the fueling. know ive installed the EBR race exhuast with the filter and intake stacks. if im no mistaken you can send your ebr ecm back to them and they will flash it for free? then it would be tuned with the stock exhaust.. if so desired

and yes it was night and day difference.. ill never go back LOL. EBR exhaust is LOUD.
i had the remus installed while living in 2 different apartments, never had a problem or complaint.. know its in the garage and the neighbors ride bikes.. +1

My spare stock chip was already re flashed by them to make the initial awful fueling slightly less awful to the 2009 standards.

Just get a beater bike for commuting. Preferably one with more comfortable ergos too. Save your loud bike for your weekend pleasure rides :dunno

My life is good with my semi-loud exhaust. My neighbors don't say shit because there are other riders in my neighborhood that ride Harleys with their full blown straight pipes. Makes mine sound like a purring kitty cat.

Of course I don't go revving the shit out of my bike as it idles, though...

So... we're all assholes, huh? :rolleyes

Cross-threading FTW... :laughing

Seems to me you should hit up Patrick Ho at Performance Concepts (see my sigline), or RapidRobbie here on the Forum, or El Skipador... explain the situation, see what they recommend for getting best performance with stock exhaust and a PCIII (or whatever)... I'd think that with selling the aftermarket exhaust, that might be enough to cover a custom map... :dunno

And years ago, when I was riding a 2-stroke loud-as-hell dirt bike, I'd start it up at home before leaving, every Saturday, every Sunday. That was usually around 8am... my neighbors hated me... and no, they didn't get used to it... :laughing
