So,

Have a HTC Thunderbolt on VZ, rooted.

Running ROM XDABolt 2.1. No issues....till now. (I don't think ROM related)

My camera won't load and Gtalk is FC.

I know the Gtalk issues are from the camera failure. But I can only find 2 fixes for the camera issue, and neither worked.

My camera went offline on 1/22/12, worked perfectly on 1/21/12.

I assume it is the 'expired file' issue from Sept 2011.

Anyone know of a fix for this... as I can't find one that works for my TB.

Without doing research, lemme ask the following:

When you rooted, did you flash through Rom Manager, or through a custom recovery? Also, when you flashed, did you wipe your system / cache?

EDIT: n/m, saw your post on XDA Devs. Guessing your issue is above my pay grade.

Run Cyanogen? :D

Yeah, used Recovery to flash and do backup/restores.

Cyanogen? Never heard of that...

I am running ADW launcher/CM7 rom with my thunderbolt and the only thing I can complain of is GPS is a little weaker than before, but the added functionality of the phone is amazing.
I had a friend set mine up, so I am not much help in how to redo your phone.

Flashed Thunderstick... see what that is like.

So far... camera still not working. :(

Many ROMs are still being developed, so getting the camera to work is on the dev's to do list.

Check out this ROM for a fully functional camera. It does not have SENSE though, so it won't have some of the animations you're used to, but the ROM may perform faster with other cooler features.

Great thing about Android is that you can try community developed software, pick your flavor, and see what you like.

So let me throw this out there.

If I have tried two different ROMS, different developers.... still no working camera.

I am thinking hardware.... thoughts?

that's what i'm thinking

my camera works just fine with the thunderstick rom

Agreed.

Restored to stock, brought to store and a replacement is in the mail!!

Next month I will upgrade to a Rezound and the TB goes to the girlfriend. Hahah

Getting rid of Sense was one of the biggest reasons I rooted my phone. Clock widgets that took up too much space, social integration that used up too much CPU, and graphical touches that were just tacky. There's enough fake carbon fiber in the world. I really don't need it on my touchscreen.

If you're on VZW and you want a near stock phone, why not just get a Galaxy Nexus?

I don't want a stock phone. Well, I do now as I will give it to the GF.

I enjoyed the ROMs I found on my TB... but since I am up for an upgrade anyways... I will get the Rezound.

....and I have liked HTC so far... Galaxy Nexus better in your opinion than the Rezound?

Yes.

To extrapolate, the Rezound looks like it has better hardware, at least a faster cpu with a higher pixel density, but it also is running an older version of Android, laden with tons of bloatware. The Galaxy Nexus has (nearly, VZW hobbled google wallet for reasons I don't understand) all of the capabilities that Android has in its potential without being hobbled by either the manufacturer or carrier. You also don't have to wait for software or OS updates. Once Google has released them, they're yours to download.

Sense ROMs are 350mb. CM ROMs are about 100mb. If you want your phone to be fast and stable above all else, stick with AOSP/CM. If you like all the prettiness of Sense you'll have to put up with a few bugs.

When in doubt, do a fastboot wipe and reflash. I spend a lot of time on XDA, same screen name.
