Abyss
Anhedonia
I went out to San Jose today to see my dad for his birthday and to pick up a bike (okay, more like vice versa
) and I had to ride over 17 in the rain in both ways. I was the ONLY motorcycle I saw at all and it was completely insane. On the way to SJ from Santa Cruz I saw no less than THREE roll-over accidents. Cars laying off the roadway on their roofs surrounded by cops and paramedics. Yet, despite the exorbitant number of looky-loos and rubberneckers, I still was being passed by people going 75+ in the pouring rain. Keep in mind this was rain and fog so thick I ended up turning on my hazard lights.
On the way back, I actually witnessed an accident where a car going noticeably above the speed limit hydroplaned and got T-boned. The car that slid out got punched right in the driver's side door. It was shunted off the road and started bellowing smoke. Everyone slowed down, passed in an orderly fashion, then proceeded to jump back to a speed far beyond what would be safe for the conditions. At times fog made seeing beyond 50 feet impossible, yet people still felt it was safe to drive far above the speed limit. Cops were too busy dealing with the litany of drivers who had exited the roadway in a spectacular fashion to issue any tickets. Since it's California, almost all if not all of these cars are running summer tires, probably low on air and just waiting to start hydroplaning.
There were many pile-ups and rollovers, most of which I am certain involved multiple injuries, and yet people just kept driving their appliance of a car like it wasn't even raining. What the hell is wrong with people?
